Default Folding with text only console

I made the switch from the graphical folding client to the console version the over the weekend. Still not got my head round it properly so can someone tell me how I check how the work unit is getting on?

I'm thinking percentage complete or estimated time to complete as is available on the graphical version. (It helps me to decide whether I should leave the laptop at work folding or take it home at night to do work!)

Go via My Computer, and navigate to the Folding@Home(or whatever you have called your folder) folder in Program Files. There will be a text file call unitinfo, which will tell you what percentage has been completed.

Yes - you should hopefully have followed my text only client set up guide as stickied in the folding forum....

You have a folder called "folding" in which the EXE file is sat. Once activated and completed, a "unitinfo" notepad file appears which shows %% completion. You can also check in task manager that it's working, on CPU usage. The "FAHlog" notepad file also has more detailed analysis of work unit progress.

Cheers for the info guys. I figured it out a couple of weeks ago though.

While we're talking about my folding though. I'm now green and in the top 10 producers...

You've got some good stats there. What's the hardware being used? I'm maintaining a rough 200 to 250 daily average with a single AMD4200 dual core PC.

I've got the console running on 3 machines now. 2 of them are Pentium 4 3.0Ghz machines which I try and keep on most of the time and the other is my work laptop which is only on for about 10 hrs a day. The machines aren't on 24/7 either (SWMBO is obsessed with turning them off!)so I'm quite pleased with my stats. I should overtake you in about 9 months time!

For monitoring, you might like to try Electron Microscope. The author's site is down at the moment, but there's a mirror of the distribution here. It can monitor multiple machines, if you tell it where they all are.

Do you have the "hide inactive icons" option set for the taskbar in XP. Try clicking on the little left pointing arrow to the left of the clock.

No, mine is set to show all.

It only really happenbs when I restart the computer? The folding goes on still in the background but no icon?

Not to worry too much, at least no one can see if they look at the screen.
