| Later this week, my Athlon 64 4000 will be retired from folding. However its being replaced by an Intel Core 2 Quad machine. Still debating if I should run 4 standard console versions, or try out the SMP beta version on this single machine. Anyone tried a core2 quad for folding, and have any thoughts. Oh, I have also had to retire my HTPC from folding, because the thing keeps on overheating for some reason.

| I was running folding on a dual socket box each with quad CPU's in it and ran 8 console clients on it. Seemed to chug along at a fair old rate. I'm not sure if I would try the SMP client or not myself, I guess it will mean you will check units in more frequently, but at the same time 8 clients means you check in a lot of points at once.

| I now have the quad core beast, and its working really well. For now I am just running a single client. I need to sort out the noise issue, it runs 4 clients quiet well but the heat generated by the CPU sends the cooling fan into overdrive and its loud, especially when you cant sleep for the din. (yes the pc concerned is located in the bedroom).

| I have now been playing with the PWM settings in the bios, and now have a reasonably quiet, not to hot machine with 3 folding clients running at the same time.

| hi there. Im running a core 2 quad machine also and it runs very quiet and cool. Im guessing you're using the stock cooler= bad plan. I use an Akasa Evo 120 cooler with a fan that came with my Antec P180 case and my idle temps are around 26-28 then it peaks to about 38 at full load and my PC is pretty much inaudible even with a geforece 8800GTX running in there too (i know, no F@H support on this card at mo). |

| A Quad-core Q6600 running the SMP client should easily do 2200ppd. I'm hitting up to almost 9000ppd from 2 overclocked Q6600's and a very overclocked E8400. |
