| Hey guys,sorry for the long post but please bear with me. Right,from what i can understand it is possible to code a new key using a VAG-COM.The reason i ask is because when i bought my Octavia it only came with one key,the other presumably lost by one of the two previous owners.Anyway,upon picking the car up i was told by the dealer,who have now closed down,that they had ordered a spare but i would have to take the car back so that they could code it.Unfotunately upon trying to code the key they apparently failed and i am now in the possesion of a nice uncoded flick style key.(small note: the car was ordered new from the dealer i got it from although not by me) Now that i have been on the forum for a while and reading about some of the things VAG-COM can do i have been considering getting one,not just to be able to code my key but for the other added benefits.The only thing is,upon reading through the Ross-Tech website it mentions something about a seven didgit pin code along with the date it was generated by the dealer,a workshop code and an importer number being needed to be able to code a new key.Unfortunately i don't have this code nor do i have a clue how to find out what it is now that my dealer has closed. So really what i'm asking is,does anybody know if it is possible to code a key without this information.Alternatively would another dealer be able to code the key or find out the pin and other info for me. Thanks for bearing with me and any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

| Dunno but my dealer had about 3 goes at coding a new key for me. Then it turned out they had ordered the wrong type of key ... All I'm trying to say is - it's not simple!

| Mark, What is the problem with the key, when the dealer ordered the replacement they should have got the imobilser code from a plastic tag that you should have. I am not sure you can get another key without it. VAG-COM or the dealers tools are I believe useless otherwise what would the point be of the imobiliser. The Central locking ECU will also need to be told about the key to enable the key to sync with it. I think this is fairly straight forward

| Manny,i never got the plastic tag from the dealer.When i went to pick the car up i was informed that there was only one set of keys and also that the alarm was not working correctly(the indicators were flashing but horn wasn't sounding) but was told that they had a key on order and the parts for the alarm.About a few weeks later i was informed that the parts had arrived and arranged a time to take the car back.Now,when i went back to pick the car up i was informed by the dealer that the alarm now worked correctly(i have a leaflet in my owners bumph saying it's a skoda approved security system and it has the Sorpion alarm symbol on the back,was this a factory option?) but that they had not been able to code the key but that it would still open the door if i got locked out(by this i mean inserting it into the lock).I took this to mean that it would also not start the car as it would not open the door by remote(i tried the remote but never tried to start the car with it).So i was in possesion of what i thought was an uncoded key. However,upon reading about being able to code a key using VAG-COM i thought i would be able to use that but on the ross-tech website it mentions about needing a seven didgit code to be able to code a new key(info i don't have as said in my first post).On reading your post though i had a strange urge to try and start the car with the key and it worked although it will not open the door by remote(not that i use it as my alarm fob opens it anyway).Now i'm sure i read somewhere in my owners bumph that when you use a new key it is not synched with the remote central locking but that there is a way to synch it.If i can find the info again it looks like problem solved ,i'm sure it was something to do with leaving the key in the door lock in the unlocked position and pressing the unlock button on the key(could be wrong though,have been before )Sorry for another long post and thanks for the help though guys,i'm sure i'll need your wisdom again in the not to distant future.

| Both the immobiliser chip in the key and the remote need to be coded to the car as two separate parts so its quite possible that they only did the one half to let you start the car but not unlock it.

| Hmm... i have found the info about synchronizing a key,it says to press any desired button on the remote and to open the door within one minute using the key.I just can't get it to work,maybe thats what the dealers meant when they said they couldn't code it.

| The flip key has two parts,the immobiliser and the remote button functions. You only need the 7 digit code to get the immobiliser to accept the new key which in your earlier post works OK. To get the remote to work, you can use VAG-com and this is documented on the VAG-com web site but is a little hit and miss. The best way to add a remote function is with two keys, unfortunately I am away from home and the detail on how to do itis at home. From memory, I think you turn the ignition on and then lock the door with another key in the lock. You then have a small amount of time to push the lock key on each of the remotes you want for the car (including any existing remotes). You get some kind of acknowledgement for each remote as it is accepted. Here is the link to the proceedure. | I was given this with all the other gubbins,plus two sets of keys when i picked up my car,this has the codes for the keys, should you lose them,dealer told me not to lose it otherwise i'd be up sh*t creek without a paddle. [/IMG] |

| Thanks for that Dougal,may give that a try later. macatac-i know about the plastic tags with the code for the keys on,unfortunately i never received them from the dealer(my car was ordered new through them but not by me,the first 2 owners of my car were local businesses so i suspect on some sort of lease agreement or something so i am guessing the dealer kept the tag at the dealership)
