Default Problem adapting keys to immob

Hello,

I'm having a litle trouble adapting a new key. At some point this evening I've had it so that both keys are able to start the engine, but even at this point the immobilizer light was flashing on the dash.

I've since made things slightly worse ... when trying to adapt the second key, I now get an error.

When 0 keys are adapted, so the car won't start with either, there is a peculiar difference between them: the one which adapts most of the time shows a "1" in the field "variable code authorized" which I think is in measuring block 23 of the cluster (might be 22) even though it isn't authorized and won't start the car, whereas the troublesome key shows zero.

I'm using the four-digit code with with an Immo2. I'm able to code one key, but trying to do two produces an error 01179 in the dash cluster which cant be cleared until wither 0 or 1 keys are programmed.

I'm also able to start the car with the "troublesome" key by entering the 4-digit code on the dash pod directly. If I do this without VAGCOM logged into the controller, the immobilizer light stays lit while the engine is running. If I log into the immobilizer, the light flashes and continues to flash once I've logged out of the controller.

Anyone got any ideas?! I can collect more info if necessary.

Thanks,

P.S., It sohuld go without sayig that this has nothing to do with whether the remote control part of the key is paired to the car.

People have been having issues recently with eBay keys.

Have you tried following this one through -

Hi Stu,

Thanks for the reply. The info on your site looks exactly like the procedure I've followed from Ross-Tech here without much luck.

I've taken the key apart and eased the glass transponder out hoping that there would be a code to help me find a replacement but with no luck (there's no writing on the glass case). In the absence of any better advice I will order one of these tomorrow and report back!

Yes it is a copy of the Ross-Tech info but I have used that exact procedure and hence am sure it works.

The operation has been seared into my brain ... I must have tried it (or variants) 20 times this evening!!! Thanks for confirming that yours isn't different to save me doing it one more time, as another attempt might just have sent me mad

Just to recap, the advice I'm now looking fro is whether THIS transponder would be a suitable replacement for a MK 1 Octavia with IMMO2? If not, are there any other sugestions?

I think that's the same transponder I used for my 01' fabia (going by the blurb by the key and the transponder listings on the site where I got my key blank from Hickley Valtone :: Welcome to Hickley Valtone - HomePage). It works fine for me but sometimes the signal is a bit weak when I start it and the immobilizer initially doesn't see it.
It always works in the end up tho and I'd be confident using it if it was my only key.
