Sure it can be reset using VAG-COM.

Intervals depend on what it is set to, flexible (Longlife) or fixed intervals.

The service indicator can be set by holding the clock in a certain direction and turning the key in the ignition.

I'm not completely sure of the exact procedure, but I'm sure its in the forum somewhere.

My local (backstreet) garage did it for me, he had a very large book containing this type of info for every make of vehicle.

Using the "press'n'hold" method works fine for cars set to fixed servie intervals. In cases where your car is set to flexible intervals the "press'n'hold" method will change the setting back to fixed intervals.
