Read a number of the threads and reports on the car. Correct me if I am wrong but it seems to do about 55 plus to the gallon which improves and is fast enough for a three pot. I assume if it is nosy then the purchase of an insolating kit for boot and bonnet will do the trick. I am changing from an A class 160 CDI auto which returns about 50 mpg which is excellant for an auto but it is a bit gutless coming in at 75 BHP. I hope that if I purchase a Fabia i will not be too dissapointed. With regard to a number of comments on the requiment for a sixth gear my wifes Cooper has a 6th which unless you are on the motorway you never get into anyway. Finally the £35 tax does it for me and the greener CO2 emissions. thanks

I have the Level 2 model since Nov 07 and have no complaints. I am averaging 52.4mpg and have had it over 60 on some runs. Your right it gets better the more miles I do. As for the noise, I dont notice it and this is my 5th diesel. On the power front, there is more than enough for what you need, unless you are in to racing people off the lights. And finally the £35 road tax ........Bonus.

I have a level 3 model since jan 1st, I too am averaging 52.4 (bizarre!!) when driving without a fuel saving head on. If I drive like an old man on a sunday I have achieved as much as 68.9mpg average. I do the same trip each day to work and usually get about 58mpg when i am thinking about what I am doing. I haven't driven yet with the aircon on, however the heated rear window and heated mirrors seem to have little to no effect. The 3 pot is a little gruntier than a 4 pot, but it is quite a nice noise, and is actually quieter when you are driving than idiling. There is ample poke to get you out of trouble in town and on the motorway and to add a little spirit to the driving. Road noise is little concern, I recently hired a 57 plate C180 for a week for my wedding, (hated it), and the only noise difference i noticed is that the fabia increases it road noise over about 60mph whereas the Merc maintained a constant noise level regardless of speed. A sixth gear would be an advantage but only if you want to do a lot of motorway use. Then again, perhaps if you wanted to do a lot of motorway driving the 1.9 would be a better idea. I am waffling on..... Hope this gives you an idea. Just ask if you want to know anything specific.

thanks for the info am going to look at one today, has anyone fitted an insulation kit under the bonnet. I have one and few other bits on the CDI A160 and it makes less noise on idle.

Thanks, yes hated the Merc it was like driving a giant car shaped jelly powered by a lawnmower engine, absolute pants! Although I am sure that an engine over 3L and a sport pack would have made it much better. Wedding was great, until each time her family did something! ![]()

Now that my 1.4tdi is nearing 20k (since July!) the read-out on the computer normally hits 55mpg on my 40 mile round trip to work. Around the 10k mark it was closer to 48mpg as an average so seems to be getting better. Not sure if it really is any better as not done the maths.

I have now purchased the above and should collect it next week. I did not look as to whether there was any under bonnet insulation. If there is not has anyone purchased any or been able to buy a Fabia kit from one of the specialist companies.
