Hmmm, there has been plenty of talk about the running in process and its effect on long term economy. How did you drive over the first 1000 miles?

| Re: Please report your Fabia II mpg here! Just in the process of buying a Fabia estate 1.9 Tdi , trim level 3. Hope the performance on this one will be just as good as the one it`s replacing.Lots of oomph on the motorway, but when I drive like my Dad I can regulary get over 65 mpg to and from work, keeping within the speed limits.Even a holiday to Scotland for a week last year the car averaged 58mpg over 1100 miles, fully laden with 2 adults and 2 kids. After keeping a check on fuel used myself I worked the mpg out myself to 57mpg so at least I know the onboard computers accurate.Somedays when the weather warms up and I don`t get many red lights on the way home the mpg is around 70.The most I`ve seen on the computer is 82mpg.A full tank is around 580 miles according to the display. |

| Re: Please report your Fabia II mpg here! I know this is going slightly off this thread but have people noticed how cars are being driven slower. I dont know if it is just in the North East but on most 70mph roads, there are lots of cars doing 60-65 in the inside lane. Granted there is still the odd racing driver doing 80mph plus, but they will always be doing this, even if fuel hit £20 a gallon. The bottom line with this thread is "Driving Style", I can get 45mpg if I cain it and 65mpg if I drive sensible. |

| Re: Please report your Fabia II mpg here! New 1.4 TDI PD 80 Estate. Only collected it last Saturday and covered 120 miles, engine is very tight but goes very well! Simply amazing for a 1.4 diesel! Driving 'normally'...not heavy footed as she's new, but allowing her to rev to just under 3000rpm at times and with lots of gear changing to vary the engine speeds, she's achieving 62mpg easy. That includes cruising at around 60mph, and using dual carriage ways, A roads and some town work. So not really economy run stuff, so I'm gob smacked at how frugal it is so early in it's life. I realise the trip computer is probably not very accurate at the moment as it is still learning. But the fuel it's used when I topped up confirms it is doing well. The Skoda technician tells me when it's done around 10k the consumption will be brilliant and the engine even more powerful. Great!!

| Briskodian | Re: Please report your Fabia II mpg here! Covered 14 miles x 2 and seeing your post re;-driving a little slower i do believe your correct. M4 / A4 both today and yesterday although heavy rain drivers were going slower and hardly anyone steamed down the outside lane (fast lane). Another question off topic I use to have an mpg reading with a No2 in a little box in the maxidot screen box that has gone, how do I get it back or was I dreaming? |

| Briskodian | Re: Please report your Fabia II mpg here! Yes I am driving a lot slower now as well. Used to drive at stupid speeds in the morning. Now driving my Fabia at 60 mph on the motorway, arriving 5 minutes later and getting 62 mpg. As well as driving slower have you also noticed that the pub bore/ work canteen conversation is now mpg not 0-60 or max speed? Great for us as I think it will keep the secondhand value of cars like ours high. Incidentally have noticed a massive difference in mpg since I put diesel injector cleaner in 600 miles ago fuel economy has jumped from 52 mpg to 62 mpg. I am now a very happy Skoda owner. |

| Briskodian | Re: Please report your Fabia II mpg here! Black; what is your total mileage, mine although 9months old has yet to reach 2000 miles, I have only had it for 3 months. and used my bike during the 2 weeks of summer what we had. |

| Briskodian | Re: Please report your Fabia II mpg here! I also drive a lot slower, but I now find foreign lorries, particuarly Hungarian and Polish drivers making any motorway journey most uncomfortable as they are on my bumper all the time. I'm getting about 53 m.p.g per tank, which isn't bad. |

Never use this product in a new car either as it will never "run in". Read the reviews on the web site, it does exactly what it says on the tin to quote a phrase. netparts.co.uk

| Briskodian | Re: Please report your Fabia II mpg here! got 70.6 again on the work run, by not exceeding 60mph. 60mpg + is now easily achievable with a gentle right foot. I am convinced that the 1.4td 80 rewards an economic driving style, but if yopu drive at 70 on motorways it is no better than a 1.9. |

| Briskodian | Re: Please report your Fabia II mpg here! Just done a run from Coventry to Ross-on-Wye and back. Traffic wasn't too bad, cruised at between 60 and 70 on the motorways and was fairly gentle on the throttle. Computer readouts after the run: Distance 146 miles Average speed 57mph Average economy 68.6mpg ![]() Actually got 70.8mpg on the way down (which was with 2 more people and luggage in the car but only 1/2 the journey done with air con running). Air con was on all the way back. Would love to have seen what the economy would have been coming back with no air-con but with it being 25C out there, neither I or my 4 year old daughter would have appreciated suffering from heat in the name of economy... Have now done 340-odd miles on this tank and have a range of 280 left! |

| Briskodian | Re: Please report your Fabia II mpg here! Steve; What is the total mileage of you vehicle, mine is 2700 and it is @ about 58mpg averaging, that is driving liberally but slowing down on the dual carriageway / motorway to just under 60mph. Can you also tell me what the 75hours on my indicated No 2 display means, I surely cannot have been driving for that period in 3 months? I would recommend thes Fabia 1.4 TDI to anyone whatever they have had before. This excellent website has highlighted a number of small problems that some have suffered but nothing has happened to me, it has all been a good experience. Mind one or two of us would be well served if we got out a bit more. PS Can we not put our mileage totals at the start of the text a\s amatter of course? Last edited by HZ123; 23-07-2008 at 16:23. |

| Briskodian | Re: Please report your Fabia II mpg here! Thanks for that. Is your picture an RB211 or GE aero engine? So if my Box 2 reading since 2000 miles was passed is displaying 58mpg were I to be averaging 50mph, the mpg would probaly be in excess of 60mpg. I think that is correct? Forgive me for being a bit dense but I am 56 years old. |

Last tank showed an average of 51.1mpg which was almost entirely town use. Previous two tanks showed 52.2mpg (about 70% town use) and 54.1 (about 50% town use). I tend to use the Trip 1 for the trip I'm on (just let it reset itself) and the Trip 2 is reset each time I fill up. I never tried the 1.4TDI - wanted the performance of the 1.9 (that I'm not really using 'cos I'm too busy trying to get better and better mpg!!) ![]()
