Lets be honest here, If you could afford to spend that on a Number plate then you wouldnt be driving around in a vRS

Re: £40,245 Vrs

You just never know - I've seen daft things like 10yr old Escorts and Fiestas round here with dateless plates on them. I see a mid-90s Rover 600 with 'N 74' on it and what must be at least a 15yr old Polo with 'VRY 9'.

Whether they've owned them since they were actually properly licensed to cars I don't know, they all seem to be old codgers, so the theory stands!! They bought a moped in 1950 with one of those on it, and have kept it ever since

Re: £40,245 Vrs

Theres a dear old lady at our church who has a rusty old white Austin Meastro with the number plate KOR 1

Definitely a case of the number plate being worth more than the car.

Offered her 50 quid for the car and plate - canny old cow didn't bite.

BAH, am going to play the organ extra loud on Sunday to set her hearing aid into oscillation!

If you spent all that money on a plate, you might not have much left for the car!

Ahh, but that does depend what your budget is, and which vRS you choose!

Re: £40,245 Vrs

I have no objection to private plates, infact I have two on both my cars *x* 666 and *bz 6666, but the thing that puts me off plates like these are they are vehicle specific, to be honest whos going to keep their VRS forever? and its going to mean nothing on any other car, I just cant understand why people spend a fortune and then loose a fortune when they sell the car, theres a guy near me who now drives a focus with the reg H1 5AXO, Hmmm, wonder what he used to drive??? Looks great on his focus...

I would agree with the ex-Saxo drive example; I'm sure some distinguised gentleman would buy it from him on Saxoworld, or whatever their internet forum is

But for the VR 5 one I'm sure there'd always be a market, when you came to move on. Victor Reynolds or Vincent Richardson may well be interested

Why did you pick a 666 series, out of interest? It would always put me off because they'd become prime targets to become possessed

Last year the DVLA was selling 180 VRS - it didn't make the reserve price of £1700 + tax 10% and VAT.

I picked all the 6s because originally 6666 was passed onto me by my father, then I acquirred a mobile number 0**99933666 and *X*666 came up in an auction recently and I couldn't resist! Suppose I should change my username Satan LOL!!

Oh and alot of people often comment on the 666 on my other car, they think it suits the car, being possessed and all that

I'm not so sure there. I know blokes with heaps of cash, and they just drive cheap cars because of the known dreadful depreciation of newish cars. I can see their point; buy an M3 and "VR 5" today and it will cost you £80k, in 10 years time "VR 5" may still be sellable at £40k, but the poor old M3 will only be worth the same as a loaf of bread! Know what I mean? The clever bit is keeping hold of your cash, not spending it, as they would say

Re: £40,245 Vrs

:-( I paid the scrappy £40 to take my old Ford classic away Reg U7

I do not think it would be of any use though as the car had not been taxed
or MOTd for over twenty years (I may be wrong as I do not know how these things work, does it not have to be taxed motd and insured to transfer reg over?)

Don't think so. All you need is the V5 as it is now to prove you are the Registered keeper, then you can transfer the Reg No.........Note:- Not all Reg No's are transferable............Bet the scrappy was rubbing his hands when it turn up Wonder how much it would have been worth today. Newreg.com have a search facility to see if a Reg No is still in circulation, First Registered, Place ect ect................Andy

Re: £40,245 Vrs

Anglesey's the place for hand me down registrations. I know of at least 3 single digit EY plates (i.e. EY7) that have been in a family since about 1910. Most of these incredibly valuable plates are currently attached to old farm pickups and Datsun (not even Nissan!) Sunnys and the like. Also loads of very old CC plates (the old Caernarfon registration).

Re: £40,245 Vrs

I think you need the V5 document, and a valid MOT certificate in order to transfer a registration mark. You can only transfer from car to car, motorcycle to motorcycle, and motorcycle to car, but not from car to motorcycle (easier to get an MOT on an old bike than on an old car).
