| Think the manual does state to run the aircon system every so often.

| Page 98: If the air conditioning system has not been switched on for a lengthy period, odours may be produced at the evaporator because of deposits. Switch the air conditioning system on at least once a month for approximately 5 minutes at the highest blower stage - also during the cold season of the year - in order to remove such odours. Also open a window for a short time.

| But dont forget the Fabia doesnt have a magnetic clutch on the end of the compressor. So even if you dont have it switched on the compressor is turning and circulating the gas and oil (if there is any).

| On other cars where the air con pump has a magnetic clutch, the pump is not always turning and on those the pump uses the A/C gas as a lubricant hence its advised to be switched on frequently to lubricate it. If the Fabia's pump is always going round then it'll just be as the book says, to stop it stinking when activated.

| so the amount of power that the A/C compressor uses depends on the difference in temperature between the intake/ambient and the desiered one? |

| I would guess that is the case , the harder the aircon is being made to work , the more power it will be asking the engine for?

| Never noticed a difference in performance or economy on either the Fabia or the Mondeo with or without the air con on, so I now just leave it on all the time. Why have something as useful as air con and never use it? ![]() Chris

| what i don`t get , is , if water condenses on the A\C element - where dose it go when you switch it off and it thaws out - there is no drain holes\ pipes at the bottom of the ventilation unit - the water can`t escape and hence , loads of condensation on the windscreen - might drill a couple of holes in the base and attach a drain pipe myself and see what happens - just an idea ![]() |

It does have a drain pipe that drains off under the car.

| The drain is at the back of the heater unit just to the right of the pollen filter slot, you can just about see it behind the carpet, it works very well providing its not blocked with wax.
