| I have noticed a few times after running then stopping my fabia does not always start everything makes the right noises but just won't fire up, if it stands for a while it is ok (usually at least 10 mins) the garage (rayrigg)that has the warranty says they can only sort it out if it happens while they have it and as you can guess it does not happen then. Anyone else suffer with this problem or know of caise, I am guessing it may be something simple like sprks need cahanging or it floods a lot???Please help ![]() |

| My CRX used to do the same thing and it was fuel pump related. Also my BMW displayed similar symptoms when the pump was on it's way out before it died totally. Ran fine once running. Could be either the fuel pump, the fuel pump rellay or the crankshaft position sensor. Have you had a diag done or do you have access to VAG-COM? The fuel pump will be inside the fuel tank and so when it does it again get in the back seat, quickly pull up the rear bench like when hatching the car and thump the floor under the seat with your fist. That may jolt the dodgy fuel pump into life. If that works its deffo the pump. That worked on my BMW several times and got me to work when I thought the car was dead. If not, it could be the relay. Would be nice if you could replicate the issue at a place where people are not waiting and you're not in their way. I would suggest then flicking all the relays in the fuse box to see if one is sticking if it does it again and the above method does not work. A diag would be the only way of telling if it's the crank position sensor, but this normally gives symptoms all the time, or quite frequently anyway. It results in long cranking times meaning the car will start but takes ages to do it. Leaving it 10 mins should make no difference if it's the crank pos sensor so I am doubtful of this, but you never know. Once running does the car run ok? No misfiring or anything? Is it good on juice? Does it only do it when the engine is hot or sometimes cold too?

| It only seems to do it when the engine is hot, if it has been left for a while (say 10 minutes or more) it does not do it. The garage say there is no problem thay can find which is so annoying as it still under warranty (well extra warranty i took out) Thanks for you reply I have no idea bouat mechanics and even ess about electricals.Car runs no probs usually abd v good on fuel etc. Very gratefull |

| This sounds similar to a problem my dad has with his new (1 month ish) Fabia 1.2. He can start the engine, it'll tick over no problem, but when he drives it out of the garage it sometimes just cuts out for no apparent reason. If he revs its nuts off before setting off it dosen't do it. I had a similar problem coupla years back with my old (now long gone!) 1.4 8v - it turned out to be a sensor at fault.

Sounds more and more like fuel pump to me. Trouble is a fuel pressure check will register it ok. Also a diag wont show it up as being faulty. The windings on them can break down and stop them spinning. But once they're going they're ok and provide normal pressure. Next time it does it, pull up the rear seat and thump under it really hard to try and jarr the fuel tank/ pump. See if it starts.

| Mine (1.4 8V) had the same problem, virtually identical to your description, Mark raw, and it was the temperature sensor which had gone. Is your gauge still moving as expected normally / previously? Regards Mo |

| The temerature gauge has eventually been sorted with a replaement thermostat it now worknormally however it does not see to have made any difference to restarting problem If I leave the car soem time it starts but 10 minutes or less then it takes uite a few goes to get it going. Dealer just does not seem interested at all. |

| Hello again Because your problem is so similar to the one I had, I've just had a word with the Skoda garage who fixed mine. They reckon (without seeing it of course) that it is most likely to be the temperature thingy. This is what they said (as near as I can recall): Did he replace only the thermostat? The problem could be caused by the thermostat, the sensor, or the housing itself. The housing can develop a hairline crack which is difficult to see as it's hidden behind. Therefore it would be best to replace the housing, which comes complete with a new sensor anyway and assuming the new thermostat already installed isn't faulty already, that should solve the problem. (Edit: It wouldn't necessarily affect the dashboard gauge.) I asked about the fuel pump things, but they reckoned the above was the most likely cause. They don't recommend thumping anything by the way (hardly surprisingly) in case that in itself causes damage. HTH Mo Last edited by heresmo; 08-03-2007 at 10:24. |
