Not sure what petrol prices are like in your area, but it has never cost me as much as £40 to fill up in Southampton.

Gonna say, paid £40 last week for near enough 42 litres so his claim is pretty accurate.

93.9p for Shell diesel extra would cost just over £42 from empty. I usually put some in the expansion tank too, iirc the most i've ever put in is 52 litres, then did 160miles+ before the fuel gauge moved from full!

Re: Bloody 'Ell..... That didn't take long!!!

Impressive, seeing as it's supposed to be a 45L/9.9 gal tank

I usually max out around £42 on a full fill. But again, depends how much I've eaten into the reserve

It is 45litres, the expansion tanks will hold upto 7-8 litres ontop of that imo, i chickened out when it got to 52litres Didn't want diesel all over me!

Re: Bloody 'Ell..... That didn't take long!!!

Not disbelieving you, but is there any solid info on the size of the expansion tank available? Just wouldn't have thought it would need to be that big, to cope with temp changes etc.

I've only manged to get a couple of extra litres into it, when I've felt the need.

Still not seen you in Knutsford either Neily, despite being there sometimes daily - my usual filling point is the Shell opposite the Magistrates Court on the A50

Re: Bloody 'Ell..... That didn't take long!!!

I have no idea officially how big it is but i normally fill when the light has come on and regularly put 40-45 litres in on top of the reserve. You can easily get another tenner in after the pumps clicked off.

Thats the same shell i use too. I don't actually live in the town but in High Legh about 4 miles down the A50 near the J20 of the M6 (still a Knutsford address though). I can go weeks without seeing another vRS....

Re: Bloody 'Ell..... That didn't take long!!!

Will have to try harder then! When filling the expansion tank, do you keep the end of the filler nozzle on the tab at the side, or do you just push this down once, and that's enough to let the air escape?

Yeah, I know where you mean. I live and work in Altrincham, but goto the gym at Cottons on the A50, and have friends in Knutsford. So I'm quite often in and around the place...

Hell, this has gone a bit off-topic hasn't it?! Off well, it was a repost thread anyway

Cheers,
Steve

Cheers,

After the pump clicks off initially i hold the spring loaded switch down with the pump nozzle and keep it held down while i then put another £10 or so in the tank...... From pretty much empty i regularly put 50-odd litres in and the needle doesn't usually move till the 170-190 mile mark..... I then get around 480-550 out of the tank depending on how hard i've driven.

On the other hand when the mrs fills one of them up she doesn't use the expansion tank method and only ever puts about £40 of fuel in....... and then usually gets around 400 miles out of the tank.

Cheers

Dave.

OK - super. I know it's been covered to death before, but hardly ever feel the need to use it, so couldn't remember exact procedure. Will come in handy for long trips though, where that extra range would be most welcome.

You need to keep it held down to let the air out, i just put the side of the pump nozzle against it and hold it outwards (the button moves forwards and back, kinda like a little joystick).

94.9p was the price for derv in soton last i saw, so *55L = 52.20

Re: Bloody 'Ell..... That didn't take long!!!

I can get about 50 - 51 litres in if I use the expansion tank space. Think the most every put in (having travelled 15 - 20 miles with the display stating 0 miles to go) was 53 litres.

As to the exact size/space available I have no idea.

Are you calling me a liar? Would you like me to email my receipts to you?

You can't get 55 l in the normal tank - unless I've been stiched up with a smaller than normal that is.

I think what he means is 55l when fully filling the tank & expansion tank..... From your post it looks like you only fill the tank and not the expansion tank...... So i can see what you both mean.

Cheers

Dave.

Yes, I know!

And the guy in the original advert stated that you can fill the car up for less than £40 which is true becasue I've been doing it myself for God knows how long. Just because he isn't farting round with a reserve tank to get an extra 10l in doesn't mean he (or me for that matter) is lying!

He says it can be filled from empty for less than £40 which isn't true! A dry tank would cost over £42 to fill.
