Default BP Ultimate Diesel

Out of interest is Ultimate Diesel good or bad, based on economy and performance...... (Price consideration needs not be included in this thread 'accepted the price as i save 320 a year now i have this diesel of mine')

Also will it damage my little baby 1.4TDi Fabia engine ???? Coz that will cost to get fixed

I look forwards to any response and am greatful in advance

It won't damage your engine. Based on personal opinion it is barely better than supermarket diesel. My current favorite is Shell diesel extra.

I've just started using BP Ultimate since a week ago. Yesterday i tracked down where they have Ultimate diesel which is closest to me. Found a garage, 1 mile away, that's where i'll be based from now on. The fuel makes a huge difference to my car, from the moment you switch the engine on.

I've used BP Ultimate and Shell Diesel Extra in my vRS. I've found both to be better than "cooking" diesel in terms of smoother, quieter running and slightly more MPG. However the price premium for BP Ultimate is a rip-off: I now use Shell Diesel Extra which has the same benefits but not a premium price.

Opposite for me. I was mapped on regular diesel, so I find using BP ultimate, even 3 tanks in a row, produces worse economy and less power. Its all a little odd, so I now stick to supermarket diesel (or whatever) and chuck in a ml of millers diesel power plus for every litre of diesel.

This thread seems to reoccur every 3 months or so.

Everytime we come to the same conclusion;

Diesel quality no matter what the brand (As they all come from the same place and out of the same tanks) can be variable and this is what will cause your "Better" and "Worse" performance along with a load of other variables.

I have used all kinds of diesel from all over the country in many different cars and I can assure you that it's all the same, you can use the same pump in the same garage for years and some days you will get a good tank and some days a bad tank. I use 3-4 tanks a week sometimes and although I now run a 60/40 mix of Bio, it still shows that Ultimate or premium diesel is not worth the cost. When diesel goes back up to £1 a litre for standard we will see how many people stick with £1.04 for Ulitmate...

Search for the threads, there are literally dozens of them fleshing this subject out again, again, again and again.

On a slightly separate note, Millars Power Plus as pimped by Jason does have a positive effect on your vehicle, it was brilliant in my 2l DI Astra. Be warned though as the SUK doesn't like the use of such additives as stated in your manual

Millers in a standard Deisel has the same effect as using ultimate or Shell extra
mixing millers with ultimate and extra seems to have a -ve effect
probably through to many addatives

I'm waiting for V-Power Diesel

that felt loads different when i used it and it's out in Europe

Well, I have not been

A. Here long
B. Interested in diesel until i got my new mota

Though fuel comes out of a tank, the additives are added depending on the company. The driver has a swipe card to allow the correct additives for the company he is driving for (Based on working for shell for 4.5 years) The more interesting point is to find out where the fuel is refined and then gauge depending on the refineries owner (Shell, BP, ESSO etc etc) where the oil comes from and therefore gaugue the quality. So though not 100% accurate in what you said, the basic's in what you said is good.

I also fully agree with the pricing of 'SUPER' Diesel, it is outragous to say the least, but sometimes people like to have a little luxury Though I do fully understand the point.

Also Millers Diesel Power Plus, is it only a Cetane Improver or is it also a lubricant, to replace the lubrication lost due to the sulphur being removed from Diesel (And Unleaded likewise) if so that would financially be better in the long run. Also does Millers improve fuel economy?? I am getting 55mpg from my 1.4TDi Fabia and I drive briskly to say the least, and that is using Morrisons Fuel, I am now currently testing Texaco in Yeovil as I got 2-3mpg better out of my 1.3 Gli Felicia. Based on that I am trying out Diesel to see if it will get me better MPG.

This thread is to see what my peers here think of Ultimate and Now interested in Shell Extra oppinions.

Please feel free to tell me your oppinions as I value all oppinions very highly

And I thank all who have responded and those who respond after this post

Q

PS Sorry for the essay

Congratulations on having an opinion but as this is supposed to be a discussion the next step would be expand on that or are you just going to leave it there?

If you've travelled all over the country, using different cars, using different fuels, You will never feel the difference if you dont use a particular fuel constantly. So, from you saying that, It's not obviously going to have an effect for you.
I used the Fuel in Ireland for two weeks, and i must admit, i was happy to be back using English fuel. Saying that, i did go to a small garage for my fuel...
If all fuel's are the same, How come you've read so many threads on here 'every 3 months' about a car running rough because of different fuel?
Now.. Go to a, small unheard of' garage, and try their fuel for a month! Then, try the BP Ultimate diesel a month down the line, for another month. Instantly you will see an improvement. It's not just particularly everyone who uses this fuel agrees, but they have graphs on their website to back up their claims.

PS. Cheer up buddy! I'm not digging at you...

I know!

I consistantly used Morrisons Diesel for over a year as I collected the points (I belive that they are served by Texaco) and it was really inconsistant in my Golf and my Astra but it didn't seem to have any such issues in SWMBO's Rover 218TD.

I also tried a solid month on Ultimate about 9 months ago before I started to use Bio in the Fabia and I found it just as inconsistant with no gains at all.

Doesn't it flush out the gunk? Clear's everything in the fuel lines, to make it clealer/more efficent and of course more power.

Would you say it is worth using, and safe for my new 'TOY' I would like to give this car the TLC I should have giving the Felicia.... within a couple days I was disappointed with the felicia, but I have had the Fabia now for 2 weeks and 600 miles covered and am 100% happy with it... so motivation is there to keep this one well maintained and cared for

Any further advice will be great

I'm sure it's perfectly safe. It's designed for diesel's, and that's what you have. It's worth using every now and again, but if you can afford to, use it whenever you get a chance. I've not used it yet, but i will consider it at my next top up.

Good point Jason. I have used BP Ultimate on & off as i'm not convinced in a change. Maybe with the AmD One Click, there are no benefits ?
Anyone else have a One Click and use BP Ultimate ?
