Default Brake caliper split seal

I was out this evening giving my calipers a lick of hammerite, when I noticed the rubber boot (around the piston thing) on one of the front ones was torn. It doesn't look fresh, although its about 20mm long.

Is this a problem, and if so, what problems can I expect? Can you buy the rubber boot on its own and just strip everything apart and replace it? Alternatively, how much would I be looking at for a set of 312s?

312's are £250 delivered as per Steve's post in the for sale this morning.

Assuming you have a Fabia VRS the seals are 431 698 471 B and just under £10.

Oh ****.

I was refitting everything and managed to cross-thread one of the holes into which the screw-in peg thingies fit. The thread is basically gone.

So I need a new one....

Anyone got a part number, or a name of the part? It's the big cast thing onto which the brake assembly / shock / wishbone attaches.

What a complete ****head.

Hi Stu,

Sorry - am a bit upset with myself... Thanks for your help with this. I have a 1.9TDI. Are they the same brakes?

£250 is a bit out of my league at the moment as I am involved in the Eibach group buy. Maybe one day!

I think Lummox is saying you're gonna need a new hub arrangement, which will also require the new bearing. That will involve undoing the driveshaft end nut to get it off. It's circa £100 plus the £70 bearing as Lummox said and is gonna cost you a good hour or so's labour as well.

Perhaps this will help you -

Does the PD100 use the same wheel bearing housing as a Comfort? It's the one with the integrated calliper carrier...

Think I have found a solution...

There are a couple of different ones mainly depending on PAS or not. Best to ask your dealer or if you can post the PT No. of yours.
