Default Brakes Whoosh Noise

Hi,

I had been driving about 15miles yesterday and had the radio turned up and caught a faint whooshing noise when braking. I was stopping for a roundabout and turned the radio down and caught the last few of what sounds like whoosh's.

It sounded like Whoosh......Whoosh......Whoosh......then stopped as I come to a standstill. I tried to replicate on the next few roundabouts both braking at speed and braking slowly but couldnt replicate it. Thinking the pads were going

I am aware that the brakes on the fabia normally need a good brake in the morning to get rid of any bits of rust etc. and the noise was similar to what the brakes are like after say getting in the car after its been stationary for a few days.

I cant replicate this though took it down the road for a couple of miles today and sounded ok (faint whoosh on the brakes until i broke reasonably hard - morning crap etc)

Is this a problem? I am trading the car in a week and dont want to have it needing new brakepads or something!

Thanks for any advice

Just been out in it then and cant make the same noise. Though spending 2 hrs on this forum looking for "noise" and driving round a quiet industrial estate is making me paranoid!

its dead easy to check the pads on a VRS , just look through the alloy wheel spokes , a torch may make it easier

from the sounds of it i wouldn't worry about it , pads worn out would give you a grinding noise , and it will always be there when braking , not intermittantly whooshing as you are suggesting

Sounds like a thin build up of rust on the discs if only present at the beginning of a journey - nothing to worry about.

Or, if its intermittent, then wa warped disc?

If you're trading it in in a week, I wouldn't worry.

It sounds exactly like it does at the berginnnig of a journey (build up of rust) only it was 20mins into a journey and after previously braking for about 50 of Milton Keynes 8 million roundabouts. Just seemed to be sudden. I still cant replicate and am trading in, in a few days anyways, so hopefully ok.

Had a freind show me where to check the pads and hardly seem warn which is strange as i have had the car 2 yrs and have been braking honest...
