build quality sucks.

I have had my Fabia about nine months now and done 11000 miles and i have to admit i think the build quality leaves a lot to be desired. From day one my brakes have made a grinding noise,i've had constant squeaks and rattles from all areas of the dash and also from the rear seats and the drivers seat has now started squeaking like the springs have burst or something.I take very good care of my cars ( some would say im obsessed ) but i am getting more and more frustrated as i find more faults.Oh forgot to add that the drivers door handle has come loose and the front grille at the fog light on the passenger side is also loose.Had it into my dealer and took the service manager out for a spin and typically it didnt make one single squeak bit i was well annoyed at the guys attitude. He basically said if the mechanics couldnt find a fault on the day there wasnt much they could do.Any advise guys cos im driving with the stereo at 20 just to drown all this out. Also has any one else got these problems as the service "*** hole" manager says hes never encountered any of my problems before.Thanks.Im off to punch a wall or something.

It is the worst thing in the world. My routine is this.
Get up at half five feeling knackered
Get dressed and by now i dont want to go to work
Go out the back door and now im awake enough to remember whats coming
Open the door,ease myself in....
squueeaak.the seat sounds like pavarotti has spent the night in it.
Turn the key and already the vibrating\rattling noise from rear seats is there.
Reverse out the driveway getting more annoyed now.
Pull away and yep the dash is rattling now.
etc etc until its too much that even with a sore head i drive with the stereo full blast and the window down to let the steam thats coming out my ears dissapate. Another trip to Chathams comin up me thinks.

If it's still under warranty keep taking it back until you get satisfaction. Also, ring Skoda UK customer services, the number will be in all of the bumf you have within your service literature, they are good. I know as i recently needed a new dash and no problem. Don't give up just keep plugging away

1. New drivers seat base (mine did the same, was ok after a new base).
2. Adjust the rubber rear seat stops (common and easy mod, takes five secs).

Just two sugestions that may ease your stress.

Not had a single problem with noises. Mine has had soundproofing fitted under the carpets & in the boot and under the bonnet. But that wouldnt stop the grinding/vibrating and so on.

The grinding only happens when the discs are rusted up, which they do very very quickly when left wet. A little sweep of the brake peddle later & it's gone.

I guess I've been lucky with the seats, not heard a squeek yet.

Definitely worth going back, or go to a different dealer. I know it sux that they say things like 'if we dont hear it we cant fix it' - but that's life.

I sincerely hope they get to the bottom of it quick as I've not had problems (yet?) with the Octi 1.9 SDI Classic, Fabia 1.9 TDI, and my own Fabia vRS.

Sounds like a little oil on the door hinges may not be a bad idea (or grease, or whatever it's meant to be). The rattling dash - wire loom loose bashing about maybe, hard to say.

The squeeking seat appears fairly common though, perhaps I got lucky

Quick check, does the noise go away when the seat are down?

If so the have a look below the metal hoop part of the catch when the seats are down. There is a little rubber stopper much like you get on the underside of a bonnet. Unscrew it a few turns, this should take up the play int he seat backs and stop the rattle.

My seat was fixed under warranty but it is really up to your dealer and Skoda to diagnose yours and fix it as is required.

Had mine for 6 Weeks and covered 1800 miles, also had constant rattles from the dash and doors, if it wasn't for the way the car actually performed I'd be getting more than pi$$ed off by now. Must admit I thought build quality was one area I wouldn't have had to worry about, but after reading neumerous reviews before I collected the car - the reality is its the one thing letting the car down at the moment

My gearlever rattle appears to have cured itself (9000 miles), except for under hard acceleration in 3rd/4th.

Dash still rattles though. Still, serves me right for buying a cheap car eh?

I can't understand this I've had 5 VW's, they all rattled around, apart from my mk1 Derby.

My Fabia has been the most reliable, nothing in the interior squeaks or rattles, the only thing that caused concern was the ARB drop link that needed tightening due to my 40+ speed humps everyday to work.

Even my wife comments on how infrequently it visits the garage and petrol station

Both my Octy and Furby had back seat rattles, both sorted by adjusting the rubber stops.

Fabia's dash is silent but currently have a dashboard rattle on the Octy below the head unit. I'll have to sort this myself as it's not standard ICE.

Cheers

I thought my glove box door was rattling, it was the contents, on a repack it went.

It was actually an item i put in the secret compartment( false floor) vibrating, just took it out - problem solved.
