Central locking

Hey folks, hoping you guys can shed some light on this, I've tried the search but nothing seems to come up relating to my problem. My central locking suddenly stopped working today, it wont lock or unlock the car. The batteries in the remote are fine (the red light comes on and the batteries were replaced last year anyway). I've checked the fuses, both for the central locking and the central locking control unit. I've also tried to reset the central locking (as described in the manual) but to no avail, i'm not sure if i'm doing it right though. Can any of you help me?

Many thanks,
Duggie.

Re: Central locking

Have you tried just starting the car? This has always worked when mine has stopped working.

Re: Central locking

Yep, tried that too.
I just thought, just before it failed I used the key to put the windows up (lock position and the windows go up) then remembered that my phone was in the car, then it wouldn't unlock, could this have anything to do with it?

Re: Central locking

Mine did it on my mpi, all I did was turn it vigorously and it ended up working as normal for a few months

Re: Central locking

Does it work in the lock? As in open all the doors?

/edit - just realised you're on about remote central locking ^^

Re: Central locking

The key in the door does open all the doors, it's just so annoying not having remote central locking!!!

Re: Central locking

Right, update, I took the car to Jewsons today in Oxford and they suggested trying to reset the system while the spare key is in the ignition and switched on. This also didn't work, they want to book the car in and take a look at it, I gues they'll just run a VAGCOM to look for fault codes? Would anyone here be able to do that foir me or should I take it to the dealers and let them sort it?
Many thanks,
Duggie.
