Custom-fitted Skoda radio question...

Does anyone know what is wrong please? The passenger side speaker cuts out and given a "wallop" comes back.

We are in hilly/trees terrain and very close to Crystal Palace transmitter, which definitely adversely affects AM reception in that vicinity, although I thought BBC radio was broadcast from Wrotham so I don't know if that's relevant since the transmitter doesn't affect FM.

The garage tells me there isn't a problem LOL.

Methinks must be either a loose wire in the speaker or a fault in the bit of the radio which directs sound to the speakers. Is it possible to determine where it might be please?

I think the only way to determine is to take the wiring out anyway.

I assume taking the radio out and checking the connections to that will be the easiest, if there's no problem there, it's a case of getting to the speaker and seeing if there's a problem at that end.

This is exactly what's happening with mine at the moment, only seems to happen with the Radio, CD's are fine.

I'll mention it to my dealer on my next service.

The BBC FM stations do transmit from Wrotham, but there is also a low power relay at Crystal Palace to fill in areas in south London that get a poor signal from Wrotham. You can tell which you are listening to by checking the frequency display - the Crystal Palace stations are all 0.3 MHz below the Wrotham ones. e.g. Radio 4 is 93.5 from Wrotham and 93.2 from C.P.
But if it's only the left speaker that fails and it comes back when you thump it that doesn't sound like a reception problem - more like a loose wire.

I've wondered for ages how come 5-Live is 909 on one "button" and 910 on another. I guess the mysteries of life are solved one at a time, so at least I can put a checkmark next to that one

What I said applies only to the VHF/FM transmissions from Wrotham and Crystal Palace, which I thought you were using from what you said in your first post.
The 5-Live transmission on 909 is MW/AM and doesn't come from either of those sites. All LW and MW frequencies are exact multiples of 9 kHz, so the button set to 909 kHz is correct. The other one set to 910 kHz is slightly off-tune but you won't notice much difference because AM quality is crap anyway.

Ooops! I wasn't paying enough attention Now I am If MW/AM arrives from neither CP or Wrotham, then a blinking mystery of life has resurfaced, i.e. where do they come from and why are they adversely affected in proximity to the CP transmitter? One only learns by asking methinks...

The nearest Radio 5 transmitter to you is at Brookmans Park, just north of London.
The reason you get poor reception near to Crystal Palace is that it has many transmitters and most car radios cannot cope with the mixture of powerful signals when you drive past. It's the same with other broadcast sites, although there aren't many that you can drive as close to as Crystal Palace.
