Dashboard noises - another one!

While we're on the subject of dashboard rattles and helping other suffers to cure them, I solved a real pain in the butt recently.....

On anything other than perfect tarmac (and there ain't much of that in Derbyshire!) I had what can best be described as a 'twittering squeak' which for all the world sounded like it was coming from an area behind the instrument cluster/steering column.

Had the dials out (twice) looking for anything loose or rubbing but found nothing. Even carried out the 'half cork' fix on the centre bracket just in case, but not the solution either.

By chance I discovered it was the driver's side lower dash panel where it meets the centre console extensions under the dash. (I had removed this panel a few weeks earlier to fix a misaligned spring clip which was failing to hold the little 'oddments' bin properly shut). When I'd reinstalled the panel I'd fractionally missed the hole in the dash for the screw nearest the centre console, causing the end of the lower dash to be in contact with the console panel.

Found it purely by chance just before my nerves went! Would never have guessed the sound would have traveled like it did. Even if this helps one poor fellow sufferer I will feel justified in posting this waffle.

So if you ever think a family of gerbils has moved in behind your rev counter............

Nice one. I have this intermittently I shall investigate tomorrow. Drives me mad, not as much as the buzzing from the passenger door, but one less rattle/squeek would be good.
