Default ECU warning light

Hi every one,

I am looking for advice.

I have a Fabia 1.4 16v year 2001 engine AUB.

The ECU warning light is been on and off for about 3 months, no noticeable problem experienced with the car. Had it checked with the garage.....no problem found.

It "finally" turned permanently on, about 3 weeks ago,The only symptom I than notice was with the engine cold, It would start fine then after 2 minutes, it start idling erraticly for about 40 seconds then run fine for the rest of the day.
Took it to the garage where they connected the diagnostic and detectet 3 faults:EGR valve, and both lambda sensors.

Could not afford to have it fixed so decided to carry out further investigation myself.

This is what I have found:

Oil contamination in Air filter

Throttle chamber also contaminated with oil and soot

Try to gather more information about the cause of these findingon this SITE and decided to give a good clean to the EGR Valve and pipe going into the throttle body.

Managed to remove and clean EGR and associated pipework and really struggled to refit it in place, definitely needed a 3rd arm.

I disconnected the ECU for about 30 minutes then started the car hoping the problem was sorted, ECU light came back on immediately, after the initial idling adjustment the engine sounded fine, took it for a ride and notice a bit lack in power.

I would like to try to clean the throttle next but I am afraidf this will require resetting of the unit once is been disconnected and I cannot afford to take it to the garage.

I also would like to remove the oil separator unit at the back of the crankcase, to check if it 's clean, unfortunately the haynes manual do not describes the procedure. Can anybody help??

Finally I am thinking of getting vagcom, I have found some affordable offers on ebay but I am a bit confused by the difference in costs between ross-tech and the one offered on ebay.

Any advice is welcome.

Thank for your time

Regards

Default Re: ECU warning light

turn the ignition to its second setting and leave for a minute.

you will perhaps hear a noise, like a motor operating.

This technique worked for my mate at college last week with a vw polo with the same engine as yours.

This will reset your throttle body.
