Default EGT (celcius) temperatures - what is normal?

Got an EGT temperature gauge/sensor set on order which will display the EGT in degrees Celcius.

I'm hoping to get a better idea of what temperatures are still 'safe' for head gasket etc, plus to spot strangely high temperatures before it kills my engine

It's gonna take a while for the bits to arrive but I reckon it will make a good addition

Normal would be whatever temps you log without the LPG. I think the LPG will make quite a difference to the temps. As it's not a petrol car though, I think it's more turbo health than engine health related.

High EGTs do kill the VNT turbo a lot quicker, apparently

Just looking at anything that could be a bit doubtful at the moment due to having spent a small fortune sorting out my engine this month

Yeah, I read about that... Any further thoughts on what caused it? Was the cooling system the problem or did it just get caught up in the general ugliness?

On the subject of monitoring, a proper, paranoid water temperature gauge may come higher on my list. Though if you're going to be tuning the LPG, EGT sounds eminently sensible too. Also, a boost gauge if you haven't got one.

Got an electronic boost gauge, sensor is 'in' the inlet manifold so pretty direct, EGT is on order (same type of system, electronic again, will have to get that tapped into the exhaust manifold ideally, although it may have to be post-turbo due to amount of work involved I suppose).

Cooling system was definitely the original fault, it was compounded by driving it for another 10k miles though which combined with the propane's higher temperatures at full blat to make a hell of a mess unfortunately.

You're quite right though, water temperature (post-engine, pre-reservoir) will be another sensor that will get fitted at some point soonish.

I am looking into aquamist to try to keep cyclinder temperatures within reason when making full use of the engine power, will be interesting to see what the effect of that is.
