engine noise while starting!! Hydraulic tappets??

Hello all,

A question for the mechanically minded.

Firstly, powerpack is the 12v 1.2l 47kw type. I am trying to identify a sort of fluttering noise, for want of a better word during the initial moments while engine is being started. For some time the main suspect are the Hydrualic tappets.

How is the hydraulic tappets Hydraulic tappets oil pressure handled in these type of engines?. Is the system depressurized after engine is stopped or is it kept under pressure?. If so it would explain the noise with `loose` valves while the system is pumped up to pressure after engine is started!

How exactly does it all work??

Cheers,

Charles

The noise on the 1.2 comes from the hydraulic tensioner on the cam chain, normal and nowt to worry about.
