Fabia Boot Opening Problems

Hi,
I have posted before on this problem , and wondered if more help was available .I have tried adjustment, and lubrication, and do not want to take it to a Dealer to fix . I have a year 2000 1.9sdi Fabia which has a mechanical (cable) boot unlocking lever on the right side of the drivers seat. It is not soleniod or motor operated . When I first got the car I was able to completely unlock the boot lid from the drivers seat,and open the boot completely. This last few months it takes 2 people ,one to hold the lever fully on,and one to lift the boot lid. The cable runs quite freely .Any Ideas Please?

I haven't this type of release, but, from experience of other cars, it is likely to be one or both of the cable outer end restraints. When you pull the lever the whole cable can move (or has moved and is now in the wrong position). The illusion is that the system is stiff because you need effort to release the catch, but this isn't the problem. HTH.

try to see what actually pushes the tailgate up when the cable is pulled , is it a spring in the latch or the tailgate struts themselves that just lift it up slightly , between these two items you should find the fault

Hi thanks for your replies. I have looked at both ends of the outer cable ,and they are in the correct location. The tailgate is pushed by a compressed spring (when the boot is shut). This has a rubber cover. What happens is the lever releases the boot to the first held position (like a door that hasn't been shut properly) . The spring doesn't appear to have enough stored energy to fully release the lock. I have checked the spring for damage etc. Overall its as if the weight of the tailgate overcomes the unlocking system.
