Default Fabia Ltd.Edition--Stutter

Just trawled thru' the "Sticky" on 2006 vRS stutter and Skoda UK "fix".
Have a vRS Ltd.Edition on order. Am I correct in assuming that these cars will all be delivered with the Euro 4 stutter to a lesser or greater degree and that it will be up to all new owners to chase their own dealers to have the modified 14.5mm EGR valve gasket fitted?

Those running similarly affected 2006 vRS cars seem to report that the modified gasket helps but does not completely cure the "phenomenon" as Skoda have called it.
It may therefore be worthwhile ordering a 9mm gasket for the Euro 3 vRS and perhaps drilling out to say 12mm as a compromise.
Only real worry would then be MOT time in 3 years as car would have to pass the Euro 4 emissions test and Skoda technicians have already advised that 14.5mm is smallest hole for EGR gasket while still ensuring a "pass" on the Euro 4 emissions test.

Comments welcome,
Dave.

Dave, sadly I see know reason why the new Ltd Edition cars shouldn't have the stutter seen on others, same engine etc so far as I know. As expressed on here by myself and others, I think it is a joke. Fortunately, some seem to notice it more than others.

That is correct but as a manufactuer has a responsibility to ensure that the vehicle DOES conform to the numbers set out in the Euro 4 emmissions spec.

With the Fabia this compliance has come at a price. It's either this or no VRS.

So you could quite legitimately get away with what dave suggested above with the gaskets then??

If you take it upon yourself to do so yes, but it will void your warranty.

I've just put down a deposit on a VRS Ltd Ed, having previously owned two other Fabia VRS's - my 1st was an '04 (TunitBox & Cupra air ducts), the other is my present April 06'er, which has all the usual Euro4 charicteristics [slightly lumpy idle / v.slight hesitation / cabin shake etc..]. Like some others here, I have put up with the 'phenomenon' so far, as the other 99.5% of the time, it's a hoot of a drive..

When my Ltd Edition arrives, I am ready to expect more of the same. What I am going to do though, is have a Euro3 EGR (9mm hole) gasket ready & waiting.. if the stutter gets as bad as I've heard from others here - on it goes.

If & when this action becomes nessessary, the car's going to the dealers for the approved fix (approx 14.5mm gasket hole) - once I get it home afterwards, on goes the 9mm version from my back pocket.. If the smaller one is 'discovered' some time in the future - well, it must have been an installation mistake by the dealers mechanic. Not my fault he fitted the smaller gasket without drilling it out first..

I hope someone can change my mine on this, as I've just come over with a small 'pang' of dishonestly/guilt and I havn't even taken delivery of the car yet..

Very clever up to the point where you posted it on a site that Skoda read quite closely.

Point taken - I'm a newbie to the site, but not to the VRS.

With the huge amount of posted history on the Euro4 stutter problem, your not telling me that no-one has carried out their own 9.5 gasket retro-fix.

If the new Ltd Edition VRS shows any signs of having the problem, I'll be going for the official dealer 13.5mm gasket fix - and no more!!

p.s. didn't like the comment about having nothing better to do - could have done the same job of advising me without that.

You'd think Skoda would start fitting the 13.5mm gasket (official fix) as standard in the newer Euro4 engine - at least the 'stutter' is meant to be reduced by the 'fix' whilst keeping the engine within emmissions spec.

my 06 stuters and I don't see the issue either. I'm happy having it as a "characteristic" I mean it's just a car.....more things in life to worry about

My ankle clicks sometimes.....not meant to do it is it? but I don't go back to my mother and ask her to fix it :joke:
