Default Fabia VRS - Cost of mods

Hi all,

I'm looking to get the most from my Fabia VRS & was wondering how to do it without spending rediculous amounts of money? I've been given some ideas by reading the forums but have no idea of the prices or where to get them, or whether they're in the right order?

Ideas/order so far:
1 - Jabba ARB (don't know what this is)
2 - 312mm brakes
3 - Eibach springs
4 - PD160+ intake & green panel filter
5 - Strut brace
6 - FMIC system (don't know what this is)
7 - Uprated clutch
8 - Remap

Any help would be much appreciated.

Chris

Hi all,

I'm looking to get the most from my Fabia VRS & was wondering how to do it without spending rediculous amounts of money? I've been given some ideas by reading the forums but have no idea of the prices or where to get them, or whether they're in the right order?

Ideas/order so far:
1 - Jabba ARB (don't know what this is) This is a bar that bolts onto the rear suspension to keep the car more level around the corners - its the best mod you can do to the Fabia by far. £210 from Jabba themselves Jabba Sport - Motor Sport
2 - 312mm brakes Under £300, +fitting on top. PM GolfTurbo for more info, as he sells kits from brand new TTs that get upgraded with Brembos as a dealer upgrade.
3 - Eibach springs About £130 from most tuners, + about £120 odd for fitting.
4 - PD160+ intake & green panel filter Intake needs to be bought from a Seat dealer. Green panel filter about £40 from most tuners. Easy to fit yourself. Idiotproof mod!
5 - Strut brace About £45, only available from SEAT. Other braces are available, I think Forge sell one.
6 - FMIC system (don't know what this is) This is a Front Mounted InterCooler to replace the small Side Mounted InterCooler they have as standard. Lowers intake temps giving many benefits which a remap can make the most of.
7 - Uprated clutch Where to start? Give Jabba a bell!
8 - Remap Likewise, just research!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Chris

And yes, the order is spot on!

Might want to include an uprated turbo if you are going for the FMIC! Needn't cost the earth!

Possibly an uprated exhaust too, maybe Miltek or blueflame. I wouldn't go decat though imho.

I wouldn't personally bother with a strut brace and the Green panel filter is only worthwhile if you do lots of miles. Otherwise simply replace the paper element every 10k miles

If you're doing Eibach springs, I'd recommend investing in some uprated dampers too - either Eibach or Koni FSD (if you are feeling flush!!!)

Chris
1 - Rear Anti Roll Bar - about £210 + fitting - ESSENTIAL
2 - 312 mm brakes - about £250 + fitting - Well Worth it
3 - Eibach springs - about £150 + fitting - I wouldn't bother, but many would
4 - PD160 intake etc - £80 DIY fit - Needed with a remap, not essential otherwise
5 - Strut brace - - about £60 DIY fit - Unlikely to see any benefit unless pushing very very hard
6 - Front Mounted InterCooler - approx £620 + fitting - Only needed with a remap
7 - Uprated clutch - approx £580 inc fitting - wait till standard one pegs out
8 - Remap - about £500 + insurence hike - transforms car.

In my case the order was: air intake - brakes - roll bar - remap - FMIC - clutch, spread over 2 1/2 years.
HTH. Welcome to the slippery slope.

I heard some say it can spool up to fast due to lack of back pressure...... when I spoke to allards about this and the affects of adding a FMIC without the uprated turbo they said it would not have any impact on the boosting etc...... going to uprate the turbo anyway though.... after the FMIC

Decat frees up exhaust restriction no end, even leaving the rest of the system standard. Car will breathe better - EGTs will be lower = turbo preservation.

Thank you for all the help.

Is the FMIC really needed as i have been told it is only really required for 220bhp+

I'd say it's needed to be able to use that power generally. You can go for arch venting and that works relatively well too. I like my FMIC, running about 200bhp according to a graph I've got, and it avoids the heatsoak.

If you run at high boost levels then a FMIC becomes more essential to keep smoke under control and/or performance at peak levels.

I used to ge heatsoak with the standard map when dropping through the gears up to around NSL already, so remapped that point is reached sooner
