| Discuss... In recent years i know of several fabia vRS's that have been crashed and written off, usually ending up on their roofs.. some of which as a result as some dubious driving. Greenlight insurance + others have been refusing to cover them due to bad claims experience.. also by looking at some of the polls dotted round this site, that a large proportion of Fabia vRS owners are "young" drivers and alot of the cars have been modded. (wonder how many people have declared their mods?!) im trying to renew my insurance for the 4th year of ownership, im 26 and have 9yrs ncb, no points/convictions and am horrified to find that insurance has gone up by average £200 over last year... the problem is i can now get insured on a different car, more than four times the value, and twice the power for less than i can on the Furby so im pretty confident to say, that im now having to pay for the unfortunate reputation the car is getting. especially now used prices are falling to "affordable" values and are being bought by the spotty **** brigade. this is the last nail in the coffin for the vRS for me.. 4yrs and 100k miles of happy Fabia vRS motoring (i was one of the first on this site to get one when they came out in Sept 2003) the love has well and truly gone, and i refuse to pay over £450 to insure the thing... £100 more and i could get an evo 8 now ![]()

| Yep, it is a worrying state of affairs. I found the same problem back in August when I came to renew. I went with 'Simple' from Norwich Union this time, but I found it was much harder to find a competitive quote than last time I needed to insure a vRS (2005/06). Steve

| This may seem a silly question, but what were you expecting? It's only following the same social pattern as any other car of it's ilk. Shop around for the insurance. My VRS renewal which mas due this week was down £20. Perhaps it's your address? |

| I think McDonalds should start offering insurance on cars like the Fabia VRS - You could pay weekly each time you went down to the drive thru on a Friday evening |

| Surely a "wreckless" driver is a good thing? It's the reckless ones you need to castigate! Sorry, couldn't resist. |

| It happens with a lot of the cars that inexperienced drivers get their hands on - look at what happened to the Saxo, the Corsa, the 106, etc, etc..... Chris

| So.. just for comparative purposes... my car, all mods declared a massive 166bhp and a 5500 value... renewal was £606 without protected NCB, and a £400 excess.. 2003 BMW M5, 5.0 v8.. 15k value £850 fully comp with protected ncb and £300 excess.. HMMMM! ![]()

| "Would you like to add insurance to your Big Mac Meal for only £30"... Sounds like the BA Students have found their calling ![]() Seriously though, the VRS fabia drivers down this way do seem a bit "special", I had one trying to out corner me on section of DC I know very well. I know you can't take the corner at more than a certain speed in my car, however the other driver apparently wasn't aware of this for his car, resulting in a NJI (Near Jason Incident).

| There does seem to be an influx of Fabia vrs drivers on here sending out a less than desirable impression, in my opinion which I'm entitled to ![]() As for my area, everyone seems to be older than me so definetely no ch@vs as yet thank God. My insurance is around the late 200 mark, I can't remember exactly how much but then I'm in my 30's so I wouldn't expect it to be any higher. If it does turn into another Saxo or Corsa where I live, I will seriously consider changing my car. Apart from that, I remain a non stereotypical very happy vrs driver. ![]()

Its been the best car ive owned by a long way, and i cant fault the car at all.. but it seems to becoming a victim of its own success and is getting a name from itself.. its becoming more and more common for the car to attract the wrong type of attention from the kev brigage in their neoned up sheds. its only been a problem in the last year or so.. before that it was still for the most part an anonymous car.

| I always thought (and not being funny with the owners) but the Seat equivalent of the Fabia would be the car of choice for the racier, fashion conscious young car buyer ![]() Obviously not, ergo Skoda is trendy and cool noooooooooStill reckon all racy diesels will get panned on the insurance front sooner or later ![]() |

| I pay £1800 for my modded Fabia, being 21 and having my GF named(21) with just shy of 180bhp and over 300ftIBS. Its a stupid amount of insureance, I mean it cost me 150 to declare the 312mm brake kit from the octy, and they never understand ARB's, so you never know if your turely insureance anyway. Its about time there was a CAP put on what younger drivers can have and not by engine size it needs to have a bhp cap. And it does get me that people dont declare there mods but in the case of when someone crashed in to me my declared wheels still havernt been payed for after a yr. So on the same NOTE why should i bother declareing my mods???

Im wondering how much difference mods make. For instance..... Car X - 2003 - value 5k - 150 bhp Car Y - 2003 - value 5k - 150 bhp (with mods - was originally 125bhp) Would there be a lot of difference in the insurance quotes?

| Yeah anyone can find loads of "crash" photos of other small pokey hatchbacks... cars too... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The point here is that any car, once it reaches a certain point in it's life becomes accesible to less experianced drivers because of it's cost and other factors. Get over it, it's a normal occurance. BTW, there was no need for the strut brace picture, thats bad darts ![]() You wait till Monaros reach £15k and people without talent start buying them... oh wait... ![]() Last edited by Decron; 30-10-2007 at 11:55. |
