Unhappy Help! Help! Help! Help!

Hello guys

I have got Major Probs with Central Locking.

Basicaily both of my key fobs no longer operate the locks any more, to add insult to injury the only key operated lock on the drivers side door is knackered. It is blocked up and the key will only go in about half way, so I cant reset them as manual states.

Mr RAC man is at a loss and the only sugestion is to have it reset at a main dealer, my main dealer is Sherlodge Garage in Gillingham Kent.

Before I get a qoute doe's anyone know what kind of money we are talking here and could this be carried out my a Skoda Specialist instead? Getting Married in July, so funding is a little thin on the ground at the moment.

Cheers
Jon

can you not put it in the ignition and try sync'ing it in that way?

tried WD40 in the lock to try and clear it out?

all else fails bring it down to me at dutton forshaw and i'll try and sweet talk one of the techs to have a look, or maybe get a tip on how to sort it

Hi

I think it has gone passed the WD40 stage it is well and truely creamed crackered. I have to get the RAC out to wedge the door and pull the boot release and then craw through the back just to get in it.

Get a new battery in at least one of the remotes first, they are a CR2032 type, hopefully it hasn't been not working long enough for it to drop out of synchronisation. If the cars' battery is flat, it won't have enough power to open the door locks. Re synchronising the remotes is straight forward and doesn't take long to do.

What do you think is blocking up the keyhole...maybe trying something shaped like a key extractor.....a bit like a lock pick but with a reverse point on the end.

It is not you battery causing the problems with the C/L is it or did you have trouble before the battery went flat.

Did have problems with the locks before the battery went flat. Changed the stereo over for an Alpine Unit, and my second key went up the spout.

Put the old Skoda head unit back and it worked again, now both keys have gone wrong. very wired things happening.

I will pop out tomorrow and buy a new battery for the key fob. The car has been sitting for over a week so not sure if that has caused battery probs.

Cheers for the info though

A **** up with a headunit install is often indicated by an issue with the Central Locking.

12v down the Diagnostics K Line is the favourite.

Oh so it was the head unit that has cocked it up. The old one is back in place now.

Can you advise me on what the convience mudule does? What a K line is and how do I fix the thing, or what it would cost me to get it fix?

Before you panic about changing things get your battery charged and see how you get on.

K line is in this case a wire directly to the head unit to the convenience unit. It is meant such that the car can read diagnostic information about the radio.

Putting 12v down a line that expects a low voltage data is generally bad. Cost to fix, could be not much, but since you have the head unit in I'd suggest checking out the convenience unit, checking the connectors are not rusted and potentially even replacing this.

IIRC, one from a scrapper for the same type of car should work fine.

I changed my head unit for a sony, thankfully it never messed up the locking but it did delay the cabin light for ages after you switched the engine off and took out the key to the point where it was better to open the doors for some light.

I replaced it with the skoda head unit....fine, never played up since....
