Default Just a quicky

Hi all,

Just wanted to say this is a great site and you have been a fine font of knowledge when I needed it in the past and for that I thank you...

So...

Thinking of buying a Fabia VRS. I currently own a Tdi 100bp comfort Fabia 2000 reg and think its time to get rid. Problems with it so far (and that means as of now)...

The alternator is on it's way out, goto get to 3k rpm to get a full charge and then it stays ok?.

Suspension squeeks over every bump when it's dry, when its wet it's not there???

Internal light is no longer existant when you open the door and other little things like that.

The suspension is worse than a tractor.

Seats look like a dog (front only, no chimps).

There are scratches everywhere on the body work but that needs time to rectify.

The boot does not close properly (its a bit of an art to close it).

The driver's seat squeeks.

The passenger window decided to "bang" just before a very important meeting. Motor still runs on the windows but no window

So there you go, it has 81k on it, what have I done to it?

New angle sensor for the steering.

Full service every year regardless of the mileage (I don't do that many)

Full 60 k service which cost me a bomb (the one with the cambelt change).

New front windscreen (cheers Mr top loader).

New tyres (obviously) and has brand new one's now and no passenger window which gave up the ghost just before and important meeting

So not that bad hey for 81k..

So to my dilemma, do I buy a 04 VRS nice and tidy with full service if I buy it, new tyres if I buy it, 12 months tax if I buy it , also with a new alloy cos it's scuffed which has done 19k miles and can be mine for £6,000 with my car in PX??

Good deal or no deal?

What you think?

Thanks for reading and any input would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like you've had issues. I never had any real issues with 90k miles on 2 fabia PD100s. You might the vRS is generally more reliable. I'm now running the vRS running gear in the chassis of my current pd100 fabia, and it's been rock solid for me.

doesn't sound like they are giving you a lot for your car , 04VRS are £6.5k-£7.5k , but then again , yours does sound like its a bit passed its best ,

i'd go for it myself

Thanks guys for your prompt reply's,

There is one thing though that I did forget to mention and that is the person who is selling it is and independant skoda specialist, who was once affiliated with them and now has gone solo. He is only 5 mins away and has a good following that he is trust worthy (hence all taxi driver's go there) and is much cheaper than the franchised one's.

So that is a plus to it.

Sounds reasonable given the state of your car, but I think spending a few quid on a valet might bump up your trade in price.
Where are you btw?

You have got to go for it really, so long as you have a good idea of its history

Though you realise you will have to pay for a cambelt change in about nine months time

19k is low mileage, has it been back to the garage for months on end?
or just used on "race" weekends lol

No really you should go for it, tyres, alloys and years tax are another grand you can count toward the asking price, so that is an O4 LOW MILEAGE VRS for 5K

err its not yellow is it?

Always helps
If that was his first offer, he will always chip a little anyway, and if you don't ask, you don't get.

BTW National, is there a very expensive cambelt change coming soon? (like at 60k on the fab tdi) What is the mileage when it should be done and how much cost roughly please?

Cambelt change at 4 years ( mine's due in August )
Along with the mot, 30k service, and rear discs
I have yet to get a quote from him, but it's on my 'to do' list.

Recent dealer prices for a low mileage are more like £7.8k - 8.5k, but this chap doesnt sound like hes got main dealer overheads so it looks like a fair deal. I'd go for it

Cam belt is due at 80K miles or 4 years, whichever is sooner. I just had an excellent service and cambelt change at Awesome for just over £500.

Just bought it, Well done enjoy your furby

Cam belt change excellent, yes it was due at four years, but I was not sure of the price aparently around £500 with the service

Insurance will be excellent at group 9 tops, just suprised my fully comp was "cheaper" than TPFT ? So my Furby VRS fully comp was cheaper than my Furby 1.9tdi TPFT

I just can not work out how insurance works but I am happy

Enjoy your Furby drive and well done

The yellow question was a joke, (mine is yellow) just people seem not to want a yellow one, I would have loved black magic but the yellow with less miles was a grand cheaper, so I am well happy with that, and being an old fart I have moved on from giving a s817 what others think, so long as I am happy

Regards National aka Jimbo

Jimbo,

You are right regarding the insurance and TPFT, It is not a lot of difference nowaday's on the price. Used to have my bike on TPFT and when changed to fully comp with all singing and dancing benefits it came to 40 quid more.

The insurance will be roughly £130.00 more a year compared to the Tdi which considering it is 4 years newer and has 130 bhp it ain't that bad IMO.
