Default Mineral oil in fabia vrs

Just had my car serviced today at the dealership. When i picked it up i asked what type of oil they used. The guy said just standard diesel oil. Left me feeling a bit annoyed after paying 170 quid for a 20k miles service. I said should u not be using a fully synth, he said we only use fully synth in the superb.

I am going to ring them again tomorrow and get them to tell exactly what oil they have used so i can check its 505.01 spec.

Can the 505.01 spec be a mineral oil? Or only semi or fully synth are 505 01 spec?

Would it cause any problem to change from a mineral oil to a fully synth 505 01 oil at 20k miles?

Is there any wonder Skoda owners sre deserting dealerships in droves?
It seems a substantial proportion of them are staffed by clueless *******.

it should really be a fully synthetic oil. How much did they charge you per litre on the service invoice.

If its a dealer you can be fairly sure it was 505.01. I would have been more inclined to check if it were an independent / back street garage (where I would provide my own oil for peace of mind, as a matter of course)

This was howard abraham motors lurgan.

They didnt do very much either, 20000 miles service, the invoice says

* changed oil and filter
*checked all lights and levels, tyres and pressures
*checked break system and lining
*changed pollen filter
*completed diagnostic check
*road tested, no faults found

Is this inline with what is supposed to be done at 20k?

Well thats miles away from me any way tbh.

Im just outside newtownards.

An independant is normally just as good tbh if your not fussy about a skoda stamp in your book.

The QU will be quantum, and I know that's the oil they use. The bottles of their PD spec oil is usually around £37 to £40 for 5 litres, so to me, 32.26 euros does seem a little cheap, indicating they may not have used 505.01. However their website makes them look reputable so they should be shot if they used the wrong oil....

[excuse the pun, just realised the N.I link ]

Sorry, I took the symbol to be a euro one.... It looks like an odd £ symbol.

Probably means it was proper PD oil used then.

The Quantum stuff is a semi IIRC....normal 505.01 oil tends to be a semi to be honest.
Millers XFE PD oil is a semi too and that's another popular one.
£170 is a fair old whack though considering what they did.
For my 40k service (basically a 20k-er) I bought all the other bits myself from the dealer and found that Halfords do their own oil that's 505.01 and fully synthetic too (brown bottle). It was on BOGOF too so got 10 litres for £30.

Fuel filter was about £24 (it's a big ol' thing), air filter about a tenner, pollen filter about £14 (carbonised one) and oil filter about £8.

In total the bits came to about £86 (but my oil will be free next time round due to the BOGOF) and the labour at an independent garage was about 2 hours which included a brake fluid change at £35 per hour plus vat.

Came to about £168 all in but I must stress that without the brake fluid change it would've only been about an hours labour, bringing the cost down by about £42.

From the price it looks as though they have used the Quantum PD oil. The fully synthetic they refer to would be for the extended service intervals which your car is not capable of. Labour would have been around 2 hours, so £170 doesn't seem out of the ordinary for a main dealer, I have seen main dealer invoices for more than that for a first service.

My only reservation is that they checked the brakes without removing the wheels, but that's what they do at main dealers.
