Default Mods and the stutter on vRS

Hey guys,

Whats the consensus state on with regards to modding the vRS, does the stutter remain on 06 + models?

I have read about 25 pages of that fixed stutter issue, but just wanting to know in terms of modding

I was thinking at looking at changing to the 9mm gasket, PD 160 intakes (any pics on this?) and is it the green air filter that people are getting? (again please recommend and pics if poss). Hopefully this should iron out any immediate issues. If coming to MOT time, I can always change the gasket back to the standard issued one right?

If you're not worried about emissions then could you simply replace the gasket with a blanking plate? This would stop the EGR valve recirculating gases without physically removing it?

I was also surprised that not all remaps get rid of the stutter.

Nice avatar by the way

If the map doesn't touch the EGR valve setting them it will remain. Me and John looked at mine yesterday....the standard setting is 70%......that didn't last long.
That's on an 04 ASZ engine by the way. The BLT must be even higher.

You can adjust the EGR valve via VAG-COM and you can set it to minimum, but it's still on. There was some discussion a while back (think it was Ross) who said that it didn't really make any difference, but I can't remember now....

Yeah, the EGR was replaced on my car last Friday under warranty. As soon as that was done me and John looked into turning it down so it would have less chance of failing again. The original setting was at something like 70% recirculation and we turned that down to 30% I think. From what I've heard it reduces smoke a little and should make the car a bit better on fuel judging by the science (hotter combustion temps = more power extracted from the fuel injected and less unburnt going out the exhaust).

If the car stutters then it's simply recirculating too much exhaust gas. Fitting a smaller gasket physically forces the valve to let in less, and turning it down lets the ECU control how much less it lets in. A map probably wont touch the EGR setting unless it's specified and it'll still be banging in at least 70% of exhaust gas samples.

ok without going to indepth, any skoda garage can just turn the EGR down via VAG-COM? they be ok with that?

plus by doing so, that will mean that you wont need the smaller gasket? part no. 028 131 547 B ?

with that asside, first initial mods that people recommend, that be the PD160 intake (is this like an airbox replacement? and is it a green air filter? any pics of the parts appreciated

I doubt a Skoda garage would agree to turn it down, and they definitely wont use VAG-COM. They 'may' agree to fit the smaller gasket but the stutter will still be there, only less pronounced and it will no longer be covered under warranty.

To cut a long story short, a Skoda dealer can't/ wont help you on this.

My mate has a copy of VAG-COM....we did it ourselves.

VAG-COM is publicly available software for use on VAG cars (costs around £100 IIRC). You buy the USB lead off eBay.

A dealer will use their own software, pukka VAG stuff, not VAG-COM.

I'm sure there'll be someone in your area (Milton Keynes?) with VAG-COM that'll be willing to give you a hand. Useful stuff.
