What did you have in mind? Milotec do some accessories, as do your local dealer and your local Halfords

A friend of mine said about getting my car chipped. He done it to his Ford Focus, and say`s its brilliant.
I have a few concerns about chipping my car, can you help.

1:- Does it harm the engine
2:- Is it expensive
3:- Is it easy to fit
4:- How much more power will it give me.

Well...

As has been said many times here (by vRS owners), NA cars are difficult to handle regarding mods (coz they're already so good ).

Chipping your ride won't really make a big difference. It would make a difference, but not much. I believe you could get your chip remapped, but you would get about 15bhp out of that pretty much, unlike a turbocharged ride that automatically gets something like 60bhp more. I don't know how much it costs to have a car remapped there, but here it's about GBP 300 worth.

If you get an proper free-flow exhaust system fitted plus a cold-air intake with a good airfilter, you could see about 45bhp coming your way. This is including a remap.

Price? Whole thing would cost me here about GBP 670, in England I'm assuming it'll be somewhere near the GBP1000 range.

Just been on the K&N web site, and i can`t find a filter for my Fabia. They do them for the Seat and VW, which i thought were the same cars.

I'd give JBS a ring, Sarah should be able to tell you what filter to get

Do you have JBS number, or do they have a site.
Sorry for sounding daft, but i`m new here and don`t know any dealers yet.

I used to have a Green air filter (essentially same as K&N but a bit les oily) and Sarah at JBS can supply these, or try Demon Tweeks. For the 1.4-16v, you want P/N P504342. As others have said, it's not really worth chipping an N/A car as you will see about 5bhp gains for 300+ quid. There are turbo kits available, but again it's big bucks for relatively small gains. Better off putting the money aside towards your next car or a 1.8T engine conversion

Sorry to against start another debate, but you will not get 15 bhp from a N/A engine remap unless it's a powerful high capacity engine, maybe 7-10 at the most. With mods such as cam work, throttle bodies, decat and induction kit along with head work you would see around a 40 bhp increase but that is serious ££££ (literally thousands) and I couldnt vouch for engine durability after all of the above mods, let alone economy and you cetainly wouldnt have a warranty. Buy a faster car would be opinion if you want that much extra power.

A remap on a turbo car can give between 20-50 bhp depending upon the application, however most get around a 30 increase, maybe a bit more. Certain tuning companies do twist the truth a little when it comes to RR figures.

Agreed. On a 1.4 16v engine with 100bhp to begin with, that engine is already putting out a fair bit for what it is. I wouldn't expect an exhaust, air filer and remap to take it to the good side of 120bhp, let alone add 45bhp. I think an extra 15-20 bhp maximum. Sorry! Sure it's not what the guy wants to hear but these are max-power style quotes of performance increases... it just doesn't work out that way.

Just to put it in perspective, on my old car, I had to fit a full exhaust system, air intake, mappable fuel controller, boost controller, hybrid turbo and various other bits and bobs to add an additional 80bhp over the standard 197 - and that was on a 2 litre twin cam intercooled turbo motor. 45bhp just ain't gonna happen without a turbo, and for the money the conversion would cost, you'd be better off buying a better spec'd car with a bigger engine in it already.

Of course, if you just want the sound, why not rip the backbox off and just bolt a cherry bomb on there???
