Not wanting to be ripped off by paying £10-£12 per litre for VAG branded 505.01 for my vRS, I did a bit of research and found this list, apparently all suitable for TDI PD engines. I chose Millers XFE-PD at £21.99 for 5 litres from my friendly local car accessory shop. A bargain?

aixlad I challenge you to find any of those vw505.01 spec. oils anywhere other than at your local VAG retailer

Millers seems to be the only brand which has any sort of distribution in The UK, even so retail distributors seem to be few and far between.

Role on the new VAG oil specs.

For those interested in changing their Engine Oil and Filter (I always do this every 5,000 miles) -

Oil Filter p/n 071115562A = £5.52
Sump Plug p/n N90813201 = £0.96
5 Litres Millers XFE-PD = £21.99

Total cost, including VAT, to change Engine Oil = £28.47

Take your used oil to your local recycle centre

I agree, Firma Bezeichnung SAE-Klasse, Hunold Synt PDI SAE 5W-40 or Ravensberger Schmierstoffvertrieb Ravenol VPD may be difficult to obtain, however, most towns and cities have numerous ESSO, Mobil, Chevron, Total, Elf, Kuwait and Shell outlets who could possibly obtain their branded 505.01 oil for you, and Castrol and Valvoline are household names who will have distributors. You just need to look around, it will save you £30

I've looked around for the last 12 months/15k miles of Fabia vrs ownership, each time I fill up with fuel I check the range of lubricants available. Even though I fill up at many different branded fuel outlets, so far I've not found a single product on the shelf which meets VW505.01

As I said Millers is probably the easiest VW505.01 spec. oil to find in a retail outlet, but it isn't widespread.

Can't be arsed to hunt for my earlier post about it myself, but if you know of a Q8 petrol station in your area they sell 505.01 oil in there for about £21 for 5 litres. I have it

No 's' on the front of them part numbers normally. I believe you got the from Pillings? If so they add the S for Skoda as they book both 'M'azda and 'S'koda parts out on the same system. I asked about it when I ordered some parts before.

Also, I intend to change oil between service intervals as I have always found it to be of benefit on turbocharged cars. I used to do it on the nissan every 3-4k. What sort of intervals do people on here change it at? And, lastly and most strangely, if it's a cartridge type filter rather than a sealed unit, is there a steel surface inside it to which a strong magnet could be mounted?

Out of interest, has anyone ever bought 505.01 oil from a Ford dealer? Some versions of the Galaxy are fitted with VAG pdi engines so will require this oil.

Correct , Pillings in MK. I took these numbers straight off the invoice.

Will have to keep my eyes open for this. Not seen a Q8 station round here. Though I haven't looked in the past.

If 5L of PD oil costs £33, and 1L of PD oil costs £12, then five 1L bottles will cost an impressive £60 When I have my car serviced, I just wonder which option they will choose; the 5L at £33, or the 5x1L bottles at £60. I think it will be prudent to relieve them of this complex decision by taking them a 5L can of XFE-PD to use, at £21.99.

I think it will be prudent to relieve them of this complex decision by taking them a 5L can of XFE-PD to use, at £21.99.
It shouldn't be either - they will have the massive 20 gallon (or whatever it is) drums of it - but I think they charge about £6.95 per litre from the drum...

At £6.95 a litre it's even more expensive than buying a 5 litre can
