Are there any turbos which can be used to replace the standard PD100/PD130 turbos from other models of car, which will be good for big power increases? I have seen quite a few Subaru turbos (TD04E) available from as little as £40. Which models will fit straight on? What power will they deliver? What cars can they be obtained from?

First things first. Your turbo has variable vane technology. I guarantee the Subaru ones don't, so thats a not starter. You're looking at about £400 for a turbo from a PD150/PD160 engine, or £900 for an uprated turbo from someone like Allards or TurboDynamics. You will also need your car remapping to suit. You may also max out your injectors, you will most likely get heatsoak so a FMIC will be needed etc... Regardless, its not as simple as £40. ![]()

FMIC uprated injectors, 6-speed gearbox with LSD, uprated brakes are all on the list. Just looking around at turbos first. Apparently some Mercs have VNT turbos (Variable Nozzle Technology)....would these work? Also the Landrover Discovery TDV6 has one.....

I believe you can use the turbo from a Vayron - bolts straight onto the fabia as the rest of engine is pretty much the same

| Pretty much all modern diesels use VNT turbos on their diesels, but the problem lies with actually making it fit and then remapping the car to be able to take advantage of it. Better to save up a few quid and only do it once, imho! Chris
