A Serious Question

How technically difficult would it be to convert a LHD Fabia to RHD? As far as I can see, the main problem would be the steering column and steering couplings. Of course there would need to be a nreplacement dashboard, but everything else is standard (apart from headlights) - or am I being overly optimistic?

Re: A Serious Question

I would imagine it's possible, but I would guess the high cost involved in such a conversion would make it a fairly pointless exercise.

Re: A Serious Question

For sure it would be prohibitive on the basis of cost etc.

Re: A Serious Question

There are garages in Dubai that specialise in the reverse way of doing this. (secondhand Japan market cars, etc)
It may be an idea to do an internet search.
If you happen to find the same model car that they happen to be converting, you would have all the spare used bits to convert the other way. And there's no tax on cars bought in Dubai with a big secondhand cash market....

Good Luck

Bas

Re: A Serious Question

Hey thanks Bas. I actually have friends in Dubai so I might ask them to look into it.

I have a LHD Fabia that I am trying to sell. If it doesn't sell soon, I will register it here in the UK and drive it, but I was thinking about the engineering of the things and was wondering just how technically difficult it would be to reverse engineer.

I am handy with car mechanics but don't have access to a full range of tools or a workshop - just wondering.

thanks for the ideas.

Re: A Serious Question

I would say it would make more economic sense to try and sell your current car in France/Holland, wherever. Then buy RHD from the UK.
