Very Loud Whining Sound

Was driving home tonight, I was exiting a 30mph into a 40mph zone, and I put my foot down and the revs didnt rise. It started making a very loud "whining" sound and there was a significant loss of power, I couldn't really gain on 30mph.

I'm suspisious of a blown turbo as the car was kicking out a lot of smoke, but was still driveable so I managed to get home.

The car has been remapped, but I have heard several reports of people suffering blown turbos after being remapped by the said company....isn't that right Dave.

Hope you can shed some light on this guys, much appreciated.

Harry

Everything looks in order, but its not a healthy sound by anymeans.

Really?

Also to add, I had noticed a slight drop in performance over the past few days but nothing too major.

There was no "bang" when it happened. I was just accelerating from 30-40 and noticed the speedo didn't move at all and then this concerning whining sound has started to appear.

I've just opened the bonnet and rev'd the engine a bit and I am almost certain its coming from around the turbo area. I have checked the intercooler pipework (I have a forge FMIC) and everything looks to be in order.

Cheers guys

Hope its just a pipe popped off in the pipework under the car (turbo - FMIC section).

Re: Very Loud Whining Sound

Will report back tomorrow after a trip to the dealership.

RE Celtic. It does appear a bit coincidental that others have experienced turbo issues, the phrase "you get what you pay for" does seem to fit, Colin.

They need to get their communications sorted aswell imo.

Anyway here's hoping its just a pipework issue.

Cheers

Gents just in the spirit of fairness should we perhaps refrain from mentioning specific companies until you can be sure there is a problem.

Re: Very Loud Whining Sound

I think a characteristic of the map is high boost at low revs hence one or two turbo failures in the past could have been caused as the result of this?

My map produces the same high boost at low levels, but am satisfied that the wastegate actuation the VT2 has, disperses this extra boost. Also, the turbo itself is a lot stronger I think, than a stock vnt17.

Aye - I've often been pessimistic about something with my car - like when it was doing the erratic boost and huge black smoke thing - Was just the thrust sensor kicking the bucket and nothing more.

I hope it isn't damaged obviously but if it is, uprated is the way to go.

Re: Very Loud Whining Sound

I must say that I haven't a clue what boost is, or bar wotsit, or what sort of turbo I have, but although I drive briskly, I always drive sympathetically to the car and conditions.
Perhaps it's the driver expecting too much of the car that causes the problems?
If I wanted a faster car,I would have bought a faster car.
I appreciate mine was re-mapped when I bought it, but I have always driven it the same, and have little soot, no dmf vibrations, no braking problems etc.Or have I just been lucky?

I'll say this upfront. I don't hang about.

Before this incident I've had no mechanical issues with the Fabia, and I absolutely love driving it to bits.

I am in the process of looking for a new car, but as an addition to the fabia not a replacement. A Volvo 850 T5 or something.

All the best Harry, it must be awful that happening, you should definately consider getting a remap from a different tuner. I hear CC is very good and local to me and you (well fairly, south yorkshire).

Mr Grumbpy who did you buy your car off if you dont mind me asking.

Its just a ex memeber on here Liam had a red Fabia with a full miltek, pd160 intake pipe and filter plus said map above. His car was boosting to almost 2.0bar at 2.4Krpm droping to 1.6bar at 4Krpm.
