vRS crashed

I had a head on collision with a boy racer yesterday afternoon - I had to leave the car behind while the cops carried out an accident investigation.
My question is does anyone had a similar experience and if so was the car written off or repaired ? What are the usual signs of an uneconomic repair????

Re: vRS crashed

Uneconomic repair is usually 50% of the cars value iirc, so dependant on the age of your car really,

How bad is the car? airbags off, doors open ok?

Main thing though, you are ok i assume.

Re: vRS crashed

Yes, I'm ok and really pleased with how well the car looked after me. Airbags have gone, doors work. Looks like both wings bonnet all the stuff at the front would bneed to be replaced. I was concerned about the line between the front edge of the driver's door and the rear edge of the wing - it gets wider towards the ground....

Sheesh, glad you ok matie.... thats all that counts, easy to repair metal but !!!!!!

Not sound awfull but have you got a pickie of the damage, just so we can see how well the car stood up to the impact.... plus will make me feel alot safer.

Re: vRS crashed

Sounds ominous In my opinion, the airbags going off is usually the decider due to the cost, have look at Fabia 12V's thread on his wee accident which ended up being written off. Looking back your posts your car is about an 04/54 plate so probaly worth about 8500/9000 so about £4000 worth of damage will see it written off, it doesnt take much to add up to that I'm afraid

Re: vRS crashed

I knew there was something I'd forgotten to do!!!

I thought about the pic during the night when I was reliving the accident. If it's any guide, the driver of the car I hit had to be cut free by the fire brigade. There was an accident investigation because his condition was serious. So, you should feel quite happy about the safety of the Fabia. The vRS was taken away to a secure place. Not sure when/if I'll see it.

Here's the link to mine... http://www.briskoda.net/forums/gener...s-while/46593/

Now after spending a year talking to people, looking at net and now wroking in the car industry it turns out my bump was very minor in reality and mine was a write off.

Way it works is if repair will cost 60% of car's value its a write off. Which mine was. Unfortunatly down to skodas extremly clever (classy) design of having the airbags nicely hidden aka not hatch lid... the entire dash needs replacement which is a costly repair alone. Then on top... new airbags, new airbags ECU and whatever the damage is to front end on top. Now i've been lucky I took the payout, had gap insurance and bought the car back for 10% of its price (insurance companies offer this) and have taken on the re-build myself with my collegues and friends... but i've been lucky i've had no chasses damage and no suspension damage, what looks bad in pics is in reality very minor panel work and the only annoying this was the airbags going pop.

Re: vRS crashed

I had a look at your pics and I would say mine looks like yours X2 as both wings are involved. All of a sudden its not looking so good.

Re: vRS crashed

actually i would say if the subframes been damaged that would be the decider...

main thing is your OK.... your insurance company should be ok as long as you lay it on thick with them - and make sure you get whats due out of the boy racer.... that should slow him down a bit.
