| hi all, had my vrs a month now, have now done a brim to brim fuel calculation and i am getting 30mpg. i was expecting more, but i think this may be due to the fact that the journey to and from work is only 5 miles so the car has barely warmed up when i turn the engine off. Does this theory sound right ? |

| You should also check that your tyre pressures match the ones stated in the inside of the petrol flap. I recently checked mine and they were too low on the fronts, once I'd corrected the pressures I saw a much better average mpg, gained an extra 5mpg! Mike. |

| the type of journey will be haveing an effect too. since switching jobs, my commute no longer involves a 10 minute motorway jaunt, and includes country roads in and out of villages, along with the obligatory traffic jams once the offices and industrial estates get near. My MPG has dropped accordingly |

| yes the journey will effect it, my work is 3 miles away and just before I filled the tank up and changed my driving style a bit I was getting about 32 to the gallon and an average of 36mpg, since filling up on wednesday I'm getting an average of 40mpg. Davy |

| Sounds a bit low to me. I've got a 7.5 mile journey to work and I usually get about 46 mpg (brim to brim). The figures might be slightly skewed since most of it is on the open road. I think the journey must be on a hill as well, since I struggle to get 50mpg on the trip computer on the way there, but can easily get over 60mpg on the way back! |

Last two tanks have been 41 and 42mpg though so I'm a little concerned (moer of a drop than the 'normal' winter slump). There is definitely something wrong with 30mpg though IMO, even if it is all short journies. | |

| WOW, I get between 30 and 40mpg on my 1.4 16v 100bhp petrol.. feel better now! I had got into the terrible habit of going 1st up to 4k, 2nd up to 3k and then 5th. since I rediscovered 3rd and 4th have gained approx 7mpg. Rob. |

| The low 30's is what my daughter gets in her vrs, mostly 4-5 mile journeys across city. On similar jouneys my Octavia gives 44-47mpg. |

| On my journey home from Uni (40 miles, mostly dual carriageway some town) I get 52ish mpg if I drive sensibly... I could get more if I drove like a granny. I get 42-45ish if I drive briskly. I have found my MPG has gone up 3-4 on average since turning my EGR valve down with vag com.
