Exclamation Alloy Wheel Centre Cap Problem

Hi i am having a little problem with my non standard alloy wheels, i wanted to change the centre caps as the old ones are shagged and dull, so i brought these on ebay thinking they would be a pretty direct replacment for mine.

The problem im having is the clips on the back are just just too short for them to clip into place so im pretty stuck really..

i work in a joinery shop so i can sand the clips off the back making them flat but the alloy wheel has a big hole in the centre so only the outer edges would be touching, so im really asking what is the best way to stick these caps to the alloy wheel with not much actually touching, im thinking maybe silicone but suggestions (hence this post) would be very appreciated!

Cheers

p.s i know they are VW but they look wicked and the fabia basically is a golf

I stuck some black and chrome Skoda badges onto my existing centre caps with silicone, and they've stayed on fine. And the Fabia is the same platform as the Polo, not the Golf.

Loads of pics of my car in the Members' Cars section:
http://briskoda.net/forums/briskoda-...2/#post1321667

I got those centre badges from a German eBay shop: 4x orig. SKODA Emblem Felgenemblem schwarz Ø 60mm NEU on eBay, also, Zubehör für Reifen Felgen, Autoreifen Felgen, Auto Motorrad Teile (end time 21-Mar-08 00:01:13 GMT)

Incidentally, my wheels were in a terrible state (covered in tar spots and baked on brake dust) until I cleaned them up at the weekend with Wonder Wheels. I was delighted with the results. Give it a go!

Are they standard Fabia wheels?

From my limited German, I can see those are listed as 60mm cap Mark. Did they pop in without problem? Thought the centre caps on a std vRS wheel was 55mm or similar? Just curious.

Craig, it's no surprise that your VW caps don't fit, as those aren't VAG wheels. They're aftermarket and use a different size of cap.

Your best bet would be the measure across the exising cap, and then get some custom VW (or whatever design) stickers made up to go over the top. Several places do them, including some eBay sellers. Search for 'custom wheel centres' to find some.

Steve
They were flat backed (no clips), and so, having removed the existing centre caps, I then stuck the new badges onto the centre caps with silicone, allowed them to dry for 48 hours, and then popped them back into the wheels. The black and chrome part sits a mm or two prouder than the original caps, which are kind of recessed into the wheel.

Sorted the problem the new vw caps had some clips on which were not deep enough to actually clip onto the wheel so i just cut them off and am going to sand them down today so they will fit. then just silicone them onto my wheels hopefully today! how long will i have to wait before driving? what do you all think to the look, i think it looks 100 x better? even if i dont have a vw

I did a similar thing when I put some SEAT wheels on my last Golf, the VW centres wouldn't clip in so I used silicone bathroom sealer. Left it to harden overnight and used them the next day. They stayed in really well and I had a hell of a job removing them when I came to sell the wheels again!
