Question Amd OneClick and EGR valve

I have been pleased with my Amd OneClick in my fabia vRS.

Pre-map I had turned the EGR down to its minimum (almost OFF) using VAG-COM, to prevent the crud build-up in the pipes mentioned elsewhere, and to make sure that the engine is not breathing 15% exhaust fumes.

I wondered later if this had been adjusted by the OneClick map at all. Two emails to both the technicians and the customer support went unanswered.

I connected VAG-COM to check on the EGR valve and found that in the modified map, it had been turned back on.

Surely speaking from a performance only point of view, this can't be right?

I plan to turn it back to barely on in short order.

any comments anyone?
Cheers,
Bas

Re: Amd OneClick and EGR valve

Im sure the map has been written with it set in the factory position.

EGR only runs a very small amount of the time, whist crusing usually on very light throttle at a sustained speed. As soon as you accelerate its turned off anyhow.

And most of the crud in the intake system comes from the crankcase breather system. The EGR ports directly from the exhaust manifold into the inlet manifold so doesnt actually go around the inlet system anyhow.

Re: Amd OneClick and EGR valve

When I had a digital tuning box I had the EGR turned down but the car smoked a lot more than normal. It doesn't smoke now I had it turned back to normal and took the tuning box off.

Does the EGR really make any noticeable difference from a performance POV?

Re: Amd OneClick and EGR valve

I think it may have been down to the tuning box. I was like Jason's car with it on!

I haven't tried it turned down with the tuning box off as the car doesn't smoke at all!

It shouldnt really. It designed not to as it only works in certain conditions.

It effectively reduces the volumetric capacity of an engine by 20% (i.e a 2000cc engine becomes a 1600 cc engine) with EGR on, but its programmed to work when you dont need power.

2000cc - 20% = 1600cc

Re: Amd OneClick and EGR valve

so, if I get this right - EGR on = no problems, EGR off =no problems.
How come I felt that the standard-setting engine was ever so slightly more responsive with the EGR off?

Emissions POV ignored here - surely more pure intake air = better for engine and recirculating some used air= better for emissions?

Oh well...
Cheers for the further info
Bas

Re: Amd OneClick and EGR valve

With the EGR Off - i notice that the light throttle surging has gone - before you had to be pretty precise with the accel. pedal to avoid a certain spot. Off seems better.
Oh well...
