| My partner has an 03 1.4 16v Fabia comfort, when we brought it, the engine management light was on and the garage told us they would sort it. Picked the car up and just pulling off the light came back on. Skoda have looked and said it was the EGR valve they cleaned everything and replaced the sensor. All was good for a few days, then it came back on. Been back to and from skoda about 5 times now. Throttle body is spotless, EGR valve ok, replaced EGR sensor. and still the light comes on. Skoda have now got it booked in for a New throttle body unit. Any other things that could be the possible causes for this very annoying problem? ![]() Any help gratefully recieved |

| Whats the fault code? Is the port clear at the base of the throttle body? Any oil in the air filter box?

| Could be a lambda probe fault (mine was). Any symptoms other than the light? As Lummox said, need the fault code to offer further suggestions.

| Ok, here is something people may find helpful.... Just got the Furby back from dealer, they have changed the throttle body as it seemed that although it was clean and showed no signs of a problem (other than fault codes) that it could be the cause of the problem. When they were changing it they also noticed that the gasket was cracked or damaged a bit, so they changed that also. The light has stayed off so far (Fingers crossed) and the car seems alot quieter. When my partner first had the car, listening to the engine rev while the bonnet was up you could hear excessive sucking of air from some-where near the inlet manifold. Now there is hardly any.... Maybe worth checking for anyone else who has same problem with the light. Thanks for all the input guys Pudsey |

| Well as they agreed to fix it when they sold you it they'll have to. The light just indicates one/many of a number of symptoms, these are saved as a fault code in the engine computer. You really need the stored fault code to know what the fault is. Like Basil says someone with vagcom could read them off or get the garage to give you them. However the 1.4 16v is known to suffer from piston ring problems. |

| Hi! You're after possible reasons - I may have one (or two). 54 plate 1.4 16V with low mileage had same EPC light but diagnosed when stripped engine as worn piston rings. Known problem so skoda covered 100% parts and labour. In meantime also discovered valve leakage and now cylinder head being replaced but this time only 50% parts and labour being covered. If it's a known fault then try customer services even if it's outside the 3 year warranty. Mind you, keep trying for 100% covered as their goodwill and service isn't always great!! |
