Not sure about fitting the new one, but the old one will come off easily if you heat the glue holding it onto the windscreen with a hairdrier or similar

It means that the rear-view mirror automatically dims when the car behinds headlights shine on it, rather that you having to dip it by hand

They're standard fit on some of the Octy's and the Superb, as well as appearing on quite a few of the VAG cars. I'm not sure exactly what is needed to drive one, whether it's a self-contained unit which just requires power, or if it needs some input from the ECU? Sure one of the resident techies will be along shortly to clairfy

Had an ebay around and the mondeos and fiestas had them, it was a sensor and a polarising screen on the mirror run from a 12V feed from the interior light.

Certainly don't count myself in that group, but see http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dgace/a...ing_mirror.htm

This implies the mirror only requires an ignition feed

I drove a Scorpio which had this - unfortunately, it was pretty ****ed, so it didn't auto dim, and the rear view mirror was permanently foggy...

Have it as standard on my Superb. Its a nice touch, the mirror goes a deep blue without any asking, and is more dependant on ambient light (it always dims itself when I park it in the garage, or start up from the garage)

Default Whilst I'm still a Superb driver...

For the moment, I'm still the custodian (briskodian?) of a Superb, and this was one of the features that caught my eye.

It's a trick gadget, but I would say that the standard mirror on the furby certainly seems to remove more glare - if I understand it correctly, I don't believe the auto-dimming mirror works in the same way as a regular mirror i.e. like a prism, and IMO the fully dimmed auto-dimming mirror can still be more dazzling than a manual one... just my opinion, feel free to have a different one

Just checked ETKA

Superb parts:

Mirror 3B0 857 594 Y20 Pearl grey 4K1 Ivory

Wiring cable channel 3B0 857 591 & 594 again only in ivory and pearl grey but not black.

Couple of other bits listed but think they are for the rain sensor.
