Central locking - can it be reset?

I'm not sure the central locking has ever worked in the car ever since I've had it.

Are there any tell-tale signs of it being part of the spec, and if so, can it be reset or something? It is a bit low-tech going around the doors to lock them manually...

Re: Central locking - can it be reset?

if you do a search on here - there's a site where you input your VIN number (on the dash badge seen from outside) and it gives you the detailed spec on your car...

Re: Central locking - can it be reset?

The search brought up this link, but it only confirms very little, certainly not the spec.

Is there another VIN decoder around?

Re: Central locking - can it be reset?

If it's Classic trim, it doesn't have central locking and if it's Comfort trim it should have central locking (remote controlled from July 2002).

Re: Central locking - can it be reset?

Thanks Chris,

It is Classic, so I guess I was looking for failure in something that is not even there!

Strange though, to call 'Classic' the lack of features that are standard to all other makes.
I guess if they called it 'Crippled', 'Budget', 'BareBones' or even 'Spartan' it wouldn't sell as well eh

Re: Central locking - can it be reset?

We were at a friend's house on Sunday and he was bemoaning the lack of features on his Fabia. He felt a lot happier after comparing specs with SWMBOs 1.2 classic:

No central locking.
No way of opening the boot except by getting into the car first.
No electric windows.
No CD player.

In fact, almost nothing unnecessary at all! It's got four wheels and an engine...

Re: Central locking - can it be reset?

Just to clarify RE Comfort spec , my early car (built jan 2000) has remote central locking and flick key , I'm not sure if this was standard or optional at this time though.

Bit of a bummer, but not a deal-breaker eh

No electric mirrors either. Less things to fail, I prefer it this way.

It's got a cassete player, what where they thinking...
Again it's no big deal, I only use the radio anyway

It was aircon that I really wanted, and this it has got.

Also next-to-zero depreciation, and at a grand and a half, it's also got that, so I'm happy with my choice.

Re: Central locking - can it be reset?

Perhaps they could market it as a less-sporty alternative to the Lotus Elise, but with a proper roof

A real man's car

ish
