De-activation pack

Need my passenger airbag switching off as my wife is expecting. The garage had the car for a day but said the de-activation pack was the wrong one. What is this and how much is it going to cost me - probably should have asked the garage but I was on my break at work and in a rush.

Dunno what the 'de-activation pack' consists of, but in our case we got this option fitted. In ours you get an airbag deactivated indicator (2nd 'blank' from left above the radio), you may already have it to indicate the airbag is installed.

Then there is a lock in the glove compartment on the left, at the top. It requires the use of the regular key to toggle it's settings.

Cost-wise, IIRC it was not the most expensive factory fit option, but you do have the labour on top

is this so you can put a child seat in the front?

they put a nasty sticker on your dash that say airbag deactivated

Yes it is! Its the same in the Mini Cooper - big orange sticker - looks great!

Only to protect the dealer from injury claims in the event of an accident with airbag- deactivated.
the kit is just a resister to fool the airbag control unit into thinking the airbag is still connected, and a registration form that is sent back to the importers ie Skoda to record the work.
Different year cars probably have different loom connections, hence different kits.

I asked about this as I was trying to buy a used Skoda, wanted the deactivation and most don't come with it.
Upshot: it's a 40 quid option to install the on/off switch for the front when bought new, but you can't have it retro fitted. you can have it permanently turned off (you need to sign declaration basically saying you won't sue skoda if your passenger dies due to airbag being turned off, and it will probably affect your insurance if you declare it for the same reason), but you can't have the ignition-key-controlled-factory-option retro fitted.

presume it's due to legal liability etc and i'm sure you could do it yourself but it might well be an insurance nightmare......

bit of an ****, really as i'd like it in mine.

Cheers for that- Getting it done tuesday - I wonder how much it will cost. They said I can have it half price as they had the car for a day without sorting it.
