Quick question to get me started on the forum, can an atmospheric (noisey) dump valve be fitted and who has had one fitted.

Cheers all!

Nope diesel don't work like petrol so you can't fit a standard dump valve to it sorry. Petrol D/V work but a build up of pressure before the throttle butterfly, diesels do have this buttefly so they don't work.

There is a diesel dump valve avaliable if that is your sort of thing, but the cost plus fitting (you won't be able to do it yourself) is a lot and not worth the money.

But why spend big money on a mod which sticks out like the proverbial when you open the bonnet or drive the car, probably does nothing to enhance performance, and puts your warranty at risk?

Here is what tdiclub.com says

Quote:
a diesel engine doesn't have a throttle plate, a gadget like this serves absolutely no purpose and has no business anywhere on a diesel engine. "But I like the cool noise ..." Too bad, this discussion is focused on things that WORK. Even if you manage to find some way to make such a device work, the noise of people "in the know" laughing at you because they realize that it has absolutely no place on your engine will drown out the noise that the device itself makes.

Installation: Impossible. Cannot be made to work even if you insist upon it.

Advantages: None.

Disadvantages: Won't work. People who actually know how a diesel engine works will laugh at you for even considering it.

I really can't understand why you'd ever want one, even on a petrol! Just shouts 'Boy-Racer' and implies your car's a budget model tarted up to look like a top of the range!

Nova 1.4 sr anyone?

You're better of with one of those sound-generators that fit under the bonnet and have a switch next to the accelerator pedal...

That is correct but this is not a standard dump valve like on a petrol per say.
