| There was a poll on this a while ago. There is a way to even turn it off with VAG COM apparently. I'm sure that a relay connected to the ignition live and the switch circuit could do the same thing ![]()

I've therefore got into the habit of turning ESP off when I know I need to make a quick exit from a junction and on certain bumpy corners when I know it is going to kick in annoyingly! I have played with the car and felt ESP working though. The way it can brake an individual wheel so straighten up understeer or a possible tail slide is very clever, so the majority of the time I leave it on.

| If your driving properly, it should never interfere, same with ABS. Even if you driving hard, feeding power on and braking smoothly shouldn't cause driver aids to be needed. Fair enough, there will be variations in road surfaces that will make it much harder to judge grip levels, but day to day, why would you want turn it off!

| Sorry if I made a mistake - of course ESP is different from ASR - I find that the throttle response is "perkier" (hmm) with ASR off. Don't have ESP (although I sometimes get a strong hunch....) I keep the ASR on usually except when feeling particularly naughty...

Surly it will be just the same but it will control any wheelspin you might encounter? | |

| Nope, as the ASR is IMHO not particularly great - the problem is mainly that it kicks in very hard but just too late, cutting power a fair bit. The wheel regains grip, power goes back up after that, but you've already lost momentum. ESP was/is a lot less annoying generally. It does still kick in if you go a little crazy, and I must admit ESP does get turned off sometimes if I am in a 'bad' mood ![]() That said I've got an LSD to help with the grip too, and during cornering + planting situations that does make a very significant (positive) difference ![]()

| LOL @ this thread (asr/esp) everytime it pops up ![]() If you're spinning the wheels and losing traction you are not in control of the vehicle whether you think you are or not. The electronics do not 'cut in' annoyingly at all unless you're driving beyond available grip, which you should only do on a track or private ground. If you lose traction you HAVE ALREADY lost control, regardless of whether you think you can handle it or not. That said I think we all have a play occasionally but it is naughty ![]() Edit: Yes I am a grumpy fart today.

After the day I've had, I claim todays Grumpy title. As regards asr, it's sometimes better left on, and it's sometimes better switched off, mostly on, but sometimes off, there.
