| Hi, I'm buying a 2002 Fabia Combi which has a 1.4 mpi engine. It needs a new engine because the block is cracked. Some one told me this is the same engine as in a VW Polo of '99 my or so. Is that true? Thanks

| A Skoda Engine in a Volkswagen, I'd say not but I Could be wrong, in which case someone will correct me, but common sense says no, MPI is a Skoda, not a Volkswagen engine and is unrelated to the 16v's, SO I Guess a breakers or Ebay for a new engine?

| IIRC the 8v 1.4 MPI engine is an old Skoda block. This is NOT a VW engine, it is a Skoda engine, based on an overbored 1.3. How did the block get cracked out of interest ? RBW |

Yes VW have a 1.4 engine, both 8v and 16v in different states of tune, 68bhp, 75bhp and 100bhp (16v), I'm almost certain that the 1.4 8v (68bhp) from the polo goes into the fabia and is badged mpi.

Sorry just thought you were saying just because it was an mpi engine, that it had to be a Skoda... did the guy actually say it was 'badged mpi' or just that it had an mpi engine ![]()

However as he's hunting around for an engine he may well know that he's after an 1.4mpi and not necessarily after the Skoda block... SO THE ANSWER IS... If you engine is a 1.4 8v MPI (1397cc) 68bhp, (badged MPI) then NO it if different from the Polo's If you engine is a 1.4 16v MPI (1390cc) 75bhp, then YES it is the same as the Polo's If your engine ia a 1.4 16v MPI (1390) 100bhp, then YES it is the same as the Polo's am I right

| HI, Thanks for the info. I'm in Dubai, where earlier fabia's are a bit thin on the ground. The car belonged to the Skoda dealer here and at about 40K Kms it had an accident which nearly wrote the car off. The body was repaired completely but when they put the car back on the road the engine was found to be damaged. So they took it out and found the block had cracked. It was where the water pump mounts I think, so they gave up with the car and just let it sit. I was hoping to get a polo engine and fit it but it seems that's not possible because it's the 68 hp engine I need. I don't suppose it made an appearance in any Seat models did it? Otherwise I shall have a long trawl around scrapyards ahead of me....

| Hey... I'm in Dubai too....so far, that's 4 guys from Dubai on this site. It'll be quite difficult for you to find that lump here. Your best bet is either another Skoda or a completely makeover to the car. I think you're better off going for another Skoda...unless you already bought it? If not, don't buy it man. Not worth it. ![]() You!!??!? You're the dude who bought the vRS WRC #51???? You bought it at a lower price bla bla without the warranty eh? I used to go to Autostar regularly (still do )just to look at that white Octi, and the alloys looked hot in white!Just a week ago your car was in the garage for service/repair too ![]() Yeah I know you.... ![]()
