Fabia 1.4 16V 2000 w reg My central locking has gone berserk, Was just a bit unreliable, i.e. would not always unlock and the lights in the door would flash randomly when the door was open. Now it will lock and unlock at random, so I have just pulled the fuse. If anybody can give me a clue what the problem may be, then please help. Also, I understand that the system has a backup battery that should be replaced every 5 years, so that is worth checking could anybody say where it is located. Cheers

From memory, I read on a VW forum (perhaps vwvortex) that there is a microswitch inside the front door locks, on which the soldering may fail over time. This switch detects the position of the lock mechanism, so may affect lights too. This causes random unlocking. Cure is simple; resolder the pins. I'll try and dig out the link. Rob

Here's possibly the link; I haven't got time right now to go through it and work out if it's relevant and applicable to your car, but it's a pointer for you to go and research. VWvortex Forums: MKIV door locks explained - why you're having problems!!! ![]() Good luck Rob

Thank you jacko203, The article is very interesting read, but I have tried banging the doors/locks, and it seems to make no difference, which I would expect with a bad solder joint or stuck switch, I don't think this is the problem, and if it is, which door the problem is in, although I will investigate this further once I have found and checked the backup battery.
