Question fabia door strips

Hi all, does anyone if you need to paint the doors after removing the doors strips on a Fabia vRS or is there a certain way to do it without the need to re-paint?

No - Just whip them off! Worst thing that could happen is it for you have an old car with faded paintwork, the paint behind the strips will be top quality. A newer car should have no issues (I did, but got resprayed cheaply) You just have to spend some time cleaning off the adhesive gunk on the paint - comes off easily enough.

Cheers for that My car is a 04 reg so i shouldnt have any issues with the paint eh? I take it that Polish will take off any residue that the adhesive leaves after i removes the strips?

No need to paint. Skoda have very kindly done this already for you

Several people have thier own techniques I'm sure. Heres what I did.

1. Gently Heat rubbing strips with Haidryer to soften the (very sticky Glue)
2. Using a length of fishing line, dental floss, old Tesco Clubcard, gently sliding behind rub strip using a sawing action to remove strip
3. Alternate between warming and sawing until strip is removed.
4. Remove excess glue from doors with lighter fluid and a cloth
5. Good polish to remove any light surface scratches
5. Et Voila admire your handy work

EDIT: Damn J you're toooo fast

@ Johnny5ive.

I didn't bother using any heating stuff - A cloth covered (double wrapped too) flat bladed screwdriver was enough to lever the ends, and once I got a decent length hanging off I simply used my hands to apply enough levering pressure and it started to peel off.

I think I used something like wd-40 to help with the removal of the gunk, but really a good thumbnail was as good a way as any to shift it off.

in the bodyshop trade they use something called a caramel wheel ,this is a disc of hard foam (the colour of caramel ,hence name) this is used in a drill to rub off the excess glue left on the paint work after door strips are removed ,it makes light work of stubbon glue residue removal , a quick polish afterwards and jobs a goodun

i know its looks nice and all, but arn't they there to stop your doors getting chipped/dented if someone opens a door onto them?

has anyone found this a disadvantage and is getting lots of chips and dents?

I agree, looks good, but I won't be doing it purely because my garage is so narrow, and my kids would end up leaving half the door paint on the garage wall every time they got in the car.

However if you've got a large garage, or park on the drive go for it ( Just pray to Yoda that you don't park next to the elusive door banger at the local supermarket!!!)

I ended up with dents quite high up the door, the rubbing strips offer little protection anyway.

I put two strips of carpet on the walls of my garage to if the doors touch is doesnt mark them.

Is there a time factor with the removal of the door strips? I had my black furby vrs for a year now but wouldn't think there would be any significant difference in paint colour, is this right?

Can anyone recommend a good product for blending out light scratches, some little sod has scratched mine

If you go for the chrome (down as stainless steel with milotech) take a look at the chrome indicators as well.... finishes the look better than the smoked standard ones only about £15 from performance lights

ive got an 04 vrs and also took the rub stripps off. the passenger side left an indentation where the strip was! apparently it was due to the car being re-sprayed around the rub strips due to transport damage!
dont expect you to be as unlucky as me though!
