Ask Jason, he will be finding out soon enough

But yes RS specific as the six speed box has different sized output flanges.

Driveshafts are meant to break if the load gets too crazy...

Much better for the driveshaft or CV to break, rather than a diff/box.

Looking at about £228 + Mafia Tax for a complete one with CV joints Colin.

As Ross says, only ASZ for the application.

So there is a difference between the Fabia vRS d/s and the normal fabia d/s?

If so, jason, did you have the 1.9tdi kit in yours or the vRS kit?

Would the vRS kit be able to cope with 360lb/torque better than if jason was running the standard setup?

(If that makes sence)

Yup - large differences, PD130 dirveshafts are a lot chunkier in the shaft bit, and I assume the CVs are too. They're also slightly shorter as the 6 speed box is wider than the 5 speed, so both driveshafts have to be made shorter.

There was no way I could use the pd100 driveshafts as spares as they'd be the wrong size and likely to not have the same tolerances as the pd130 ones,

I was using pd130 shafts when the inside one blew a joint. The offside one is brand new as the driveshaft had already been nabbed at the scrappy before I got in there. Perhaps in foresight it would have paid for me to get both shafts brand new and not risk a second hand one from a scrapped car? Never mind.

Out of interest, are there any uprated ones available? Just getting concerned due to the expected extra power delivery I'll end up with. Also will the Quaife LSD make this problem worse/better?

Default Re: Fabia RS Driveshafts...

Don't let my busting incident put anyone off.

If anyone remembers, both outer hubs I got with my conversion were knocked out of alignment by 5 degrees or more. With a knock like that to the outer hub, I'm reckoning something could easily have fed through to the driveshaft joint/s. Makes me worry about the outer joint a little on the shaft too...

Offside shaft is brand new so I have no worries about that one. But the fact I have doubts about this driveshaft is making me think strongly about getting a spare complete nearside shaft from a good source.

And also dont forget that Jason was doing pretty much the most extreme torture you can give your transmission...

if you plan to be doin the 'pod reguarly.. youd be better off with a different car!

Mine will be doing the motorway runs to work/back again mostly, with a bit of fun on B-roads and roundabouts when I fancy it. Won't be doing any form of track or 'pod - suppose I'm just paranoid

Second thing to add to the list of stuff I don't want:
1. Broken drive shafts
2. Jason's smokescreen - btw Jason did you get the new 'zorst & if so did it make things better than the straight-through pipe you've currently got/used to have?

1) shouldn't happen again.

2) new straight thru pipe is better than old straight thru pipe which was essentially just a bolted in bit of pipe to replace the cat. It is now full stainless pipe from DP to tailpipe with no boxes. It is much more efficient but boy it makes a funny noise at tickover. Smokes less in general I found, but it was still capable of leaving great clouds of soot on the A46.

- fair enough & thanks for letting me know. I reckon SWMBO would notice that kinda smoke screen you see & have a few words as to why that's happening

The noise too. At a constant 90mph, I mean 70mph it has a permanent rumble in the background (when pushing constant 0.5bar to keep that speed up). I don't mind this but in this day & age of silent exhausts and quiet engines / padding, it may not be so desirable.

I'm not allowed to go to 3 digits when SWMBO is in the car (kph ) and I must admit I rarely go that fast anyway, but I'll keep it in mind

Mine should be a little less noisy I hope as it's the BF one and it still has a cat

Well, in the fabia dropping the car actually appears to straighten out the driveshafts a little bit. If this is a good or bad thing, I don't know.

Mine's dropped around 65/70mm st the front from standard.
