Fabia VRS 18" alloys

Just wondering if 18" alloys will fit fabia vrs with no problems.
also, when eibach springs are fitted, is there still problems/no problems.
I will not affect the speed with 18" alloys will it ?

People have fitted 18s but I am not sure what other mods (if any) were needed.

Shifty had 18" alloys on his Furby. You can see them on his signature. Maybe a little PM to him might help (or just wait, I'm sure he'll be along for some good advice)

Fitted my 18s on my Fabia with coilovers two days ago.

front: 8x18 ET 35, needed arches modification and cutting of the plastic housing inside
rear: 9x18 ET 30, no modifications needed

Alloys are Rial Nogaro with 215/35 R18 tires.

It doesn't affect speed, the speedo is just more accurate (proofed that with my GPS). But it certainly does affect acceleration.

What is it that effects acceleration? Is it simply down to an increased contact patch?

the rolling radius between your 16 and the 18 is the same?

If that's the case the only way it will have an affect is the slightly higher unsprung mass and the slightly larger friction co-efficient which will actually help you get away quicker

It will be weight that will do it.

Rollig radius is the same as a lower profile tyre is used.

Yep, rolling radius is the same, hence the laccy band tyres that are needed.

My BBS alloys are lighter than the std vRS ones, and only 1" wider (215 tyres instead of 205 needed). So fingers crossed there isn't a noticeable difference in performance.

Rolling radius is definitely slightly bigger, that's why the speedo is in fact more accurate now. Loss of acceleration comes due to a physical phenomenon which is called "moment of inertia" in english I think. In fact not only the weight of the wheel affects acceleration but also the weight distribution (more mass on a larger radius).

i think Monkey boys car looks a little high (no offence meant)
Markuss car looks good with the coil overs but what price would i be looking at +fitti ng and what coilovers are they ?
i got a quote from demon tweeks for eibach springs + fitting = £350 (eibachs were £150 without fitting)

It's noticable when accelerating at higher speeds. From a standing start you will hardly notice any difference I think.

Coilovers are a pain in a way - they definitely look fantastic when lowered like that, but on my daily drive I'd scrape the sumpguard daily due to the roads I drive on

Eibachs is as low as I'm prepared to go for general driving.

No argument on the looks though, I reckon those 18" + coilovers look excellent

Most likely the result of increased drag from the wider tyres then. Wider tyre = wider contact patch = more patch forming energy (energy absorbed by the tyre to deform to make the contact patch). Te lower profile may also increase the energy the tyre absorbs to make the contact patch.

What is the effect on top speed?

edit: Also, if speedo is more accurate, you may have slightly higher gearing by maybe 3% which will knock 3% off your acceleration in any gear as well.
