Question Fabia vRS Depreciation

Just been browsing round Whatcar's website and came across their 'Depreciation Index'. Looked up the vRS and couldn't believe how far out they seem to be. I wish I could pick up a 1 year old for what they quote

How do you think they calculate such figures, especially seeing how inaccurate it seems to be in this case?

I think they are trade in amounts? As a new car they are probably guessing at the figures for 3 yrs time, in the end a car will always lose money so you have to swallow the depreciation and enjoy the car. I always hate trade in time, it seems my cars are always worth less than I would like, thats life I suppose!

I Can't see where they get those prices from. only two weeks ago we part ex'd one of our fabia Vrs's ( the wife's) which was 14 months old , no options other than met paint and had done 15k miles. We got £10150 for it in addition to the replacement car ( an older furby 1.4 16v) being discounted. so as its turned out the furby Vrs depreciated less than the bmw mini cooper which we owned before it

Most of these guides seem way out on skoda's these days, just compare the figures to those in the real world. It would seem they are not taking into account the increase in demand since vag took over.

Just wondering, that you have 2 furbies, which is the faster, also does the 04 one have the updated gearbox ratios, just interested because i've never driven the earlier vrs.

PS who's the better/faster driver, you or mrs stokey

Also how many people would have considered a sporty diesel, let alone a Skoda, unless Top Gear et al had not rated it so highly.......... I do wonder if Skoda's slow production turn around times are also helping resale value....

According to those figures the car'll be worth £6,2 ish in three years - bargain! The final payment (guaranteed minimum value) of mine is just under 4k so that'll be my deposit on a brand new one sorted then! Of course that is only a forecast and as Michael Fish would probably agree, things could change.

i worked it out on parkers
in one year it looses about 2500
unlike v6 clio that looses 50% of list lol

It's very difficult to predict future values. However, the main reason I went for the vRS over a high level 100bhp TDi was the residuals: I can imagine them being stronger on the vRS.

Oh, and I like the seats, too!

That doesn't seem to be true, as far as dealer prices go. I've seen dealers selling 53-plates with 15k-odd for £11500!

That's why I've decided to order with Tins, I'm getting a brand new car delivered for less money Granted, the dealer one I was looking at was metallic, but didn't have any options and I like red anyway!

I think they're holding their price due to them having such a limited availability.

Same happened with Subaru when the Impreza turbo became popular and now the market is flooded, check out second hand prices

I seem to remember in the recent Autocar long term test 'end report' they were surprised to find out just how litlle their Furby had depreciated. It was a completely standard, red vRS. With just under 16k on the clock it had lost £1900 I think. I don't know if that was trade/private sale or what and the belonged to Skoda UK so it wasn't as though they actually sold it.

I was looking at this on Autotrader, it gives u a good indication on how much ur furby is worth. If u search for 2nd hand Furbys

A silver, 53 model, done 11,000miles and it was selling at a garage for £11,500. Because its trade, the garage will gain a profit of 1-2k. So if i were to sell my furby and get a qoute between £10 to £11K ill be well impressed especially mine's just a standard silver January 53 plate and i bought it for £11,400.

So anyone wanna buy a silver furby for £11K

But what i dont get is why sell them that high where u can buy a brand new one for £12K without discount? PPL are not that desperate to buy them are they?

Anyone care to shed some light on this?

Longer waitinf times for new one - it's surprising what people impatient people will do.

interesting to read on the site that waiting times are long.

I bought a vRS last month and picked it up 4 days after signing on the dotted line, my mate who was so impressed with my wee furbee went over to the dealer last Thursday, ordered a black one and picks it up next Tuesday.

Depends on where you are I guess.

Most books seem to be giving a figure of about 50% retained value after 3 years. ( sorry if this has already been mentioned ). This would mean a value of about £6000. But I get the impression that this does not take into account the rising demand for this car which may push prices higher than this.

Mine had reversing sensors and Cruise, but as you say was showroom model.

Considering I got mine for £11.500 with the extras I was more than happy.

Mind you I know bu**er all about cars and have learned more through these forums than I have ever known before.

I picked my furby by luck, good economy as I need car for work (1200mls per month).

Have basically already agreed a trade in for a new one in 2 years time from my dealer.

JUST LOVE IT

The thing I was allways reminded of it that these graphs allways quote the manf RRP and you never pay the RRP I got my VRS for 10999 from the dealer. They dont take into account the demand. Cars do burn money I have never buy a new car but in the Furbys case it was the same price new as a 8 month old with 10K plus I lived my dream of owning a new car

These prices allways seem high to me... My new VRS was 10,800 in March04, no options in red. Looks like I could sell it next year (as if I would!!) without looing much. My 2.5 year old Clio lost £3.5k (8k -> 4.5k) in 2.5 years.

Until I need a larger car... which isn't going to be any time soon I'll be keeping the Fabia.

Spot on, weve been buying them in at silly prices just to satisfy orders, used ones are going for more than what Tins etc are quoting for new ones just because people want them.

Could have sold my car about 10 times since we opened (I allways park out the front )

was the 04 has the new gearbox ratios, which mean its doing an extra 500rpm at 80mph. the silver one was the fasted and most economical, but i put all of the extra speed and some of the economy gains down to their respective milages the 04 only having done4k whilst the 03 just got better the more miles it did

Despite the MINI's supposed depreciation-proof qualities, I think this may be because MINI encourage people to personalise their purchases. This is always going to be a mistake if resale value is a concern, as the chances of a second-hand purchaser sharing your taste exactly is pretty slim. I saw a MINI Cooper the other day with red and black zebra stripes on the roof. I'm sure the owner likes them, but I can't imagine it's a view shared by many...

Had to pop into the dealer today to get some PD oil (kinda expensive!), and they had a 53 plate Fab vRS (relatively high mileage) for I think just over GBP 10900. Assuming it was traded-in for GBP 9900, 12.5% depreciation in a year is actually pretty good!
